Hi everyone!

I've been thinking of different things that would give me great medical-related experience, and I decided that I want to volunteer at our school's fire department as an ems. I'm a little worried about how big of a commitment this will be on top of being involved in college athletics, and also how this will balance into my course load. I am taking o-chem 1 and anatomy & physiology this fall.

If anyone who has experience as a volunteer ems, or who has had to juggle around multiple EC's with a heavy course load, could give some insight on whether or not this is a good idea and how to manage it, I would really appreciate it!

If you’re 100% sure about going into dentistry, I would try and gain more dental related experience, possibly as a dental assistant. Becoming an EMS is awesome but not really dentistry related.

I have been a dental assistant and accumulated shadow hours so I have around 1,000 hours dental experience. I am currently looking for volunteering ideas at school because I only have about 50 hours through soccer related clinics and fundraisers.

Unless you are really passionate about EMS/firefighter type work, I would look for other volunteer activities. local soup kitchen, tutoring kids, etc whatever you enjoy. Unless you train and get all the certifications you'll just be sweeping floors and the occasional ride along, not doing much else. But you also said you wanted "medical experience" so go for it if you're considering medicine and want to give it a try but if you're set on dentistry it's a big commitment for nothing.
