Volunteer Hours

Is there a certain number of volunteer hours one should have? Also, I did about 500 hours in high school. Should I list these on my dental school application?

I'd say about 100 is a fair amount for the span of university. Dont include anything from high school.

Also if you don't have any shadowing hours I would work on those before volunteering ones.

Definitely don't include anything from high school on your app. Maybe if you've continued doing the same thing from high school on a regular basis throughout college (so you have been shadowing Dr. X for the past 6 yrs would be acceptable), but otherwise no.

I helped coach a 12 year old travel baseball team for 2 years. A TON of hours. Would that count as volunteer work? I was at 2 practices a week all year and tournaments all weekend during the Spring/Summer..
