Hey guys, do you think that 120 hours of volunteer experience is suffice? It was practically the most hands on and in depth experience that a premed could possible have. I was a "volunteer orderly" in the OR. I also watched around 40 full surgeries during any free time in the day that I had. I am wondering if 120 is enough becuase if not, I will gladly attain more! Thanks

The most important thing about volunteering is the quality of the experience, not the amount of hours. If the experience was enjoyable, then I think you should continue volunteering not to impress an admissions committee but rather because you enjoy doing it.

Subzero that's def not enough hours. I had like 900 hours of volunteer service and I was told that was not enough.

Just kidding, you have more than enough hours! :meanie:

i had about that many (probably a touch less) when i got my first acceptance this round. like bbas said, its about the quality of the experience tho. to say that you sat around and punched someone's parking ticket for 120 hours does not look nearly as good as saying you watched 40 surgeries. when you interview, just be ready to bring up the experience you had and maybe one or two of the neatest things you did / saw and how they affected you and your desire to become a physician.

I agree...it doesnt matter how many hours you logged, but what experiences you took from volunteering...your 40 surgeries will def impress some people, but try and remember maybe a few surgeries that you were really impressed with or that you were totally interested in. Any other things that you can take out of your experiences, and how they contribute to your desire to become a physician is the most important thing!
