Seeing I work in a nursing home and will soon be working in the hospital as an RN, I feel I should volunteer in other places. How would volunteering at an animal shelter be viewed? I'm really passionate about animals, and I would enjoy the work. The shelter I'm looking at, you can pretty much come and go as you please and spend time with the animals. Thoughts?

The purpose of volunteering is to show that you have interests outside of medicine, and a desire to help others.

If working at a shelter does that (it does IMHO), AND you enjoy it then do it.

They are not going to care what you did as much as that you did something for someone else, and that you have more than one layer to your personality.
