Hey guys quick question:
They have a sport (as you all know) for Avg weekly hours and total hours for volunteer/ extracurricular But what if its something you just started recently, I dont want it to look pathetic when Im gana end up putting tons of time into it?

For example I was selected at the Organic Chemistry tutor for the upcoming semester and so far put it about 10 hours organizing practice tests and worksheets and meeting with the teachers but over the corse of the semester it will be well over 100 hours but they DONT CARE? It seems weird to write only 10 looks kinda lame!!!!!!
Same predicament with government position for the upcoming school year!

What did you guys do in same situation?

I was in the same position! They also have columns where you put weekly hours and the month/year you started. I personally left mine blank because I didn't want to be dishonest and put like 100 hrs (when it will add up to that eventually, but I don't have those hours yet). I also left it blank so the admission people will be drawn to look at the start date and weekly hours column so they would know how much time I plan on devoting to it in the near future. For example, I put how I will be a pre-dental club officer this upcoming year. I didn't write any hours but said I'd devote like 7 hours a week to it and will start Aug of 2008. But then again there is a debate on SDN on whether to leave the total hours blank or not! I guess that I will just explain myself in interviews (I hope to get at least one!) and hopefully they will appreciate my honesty! haha Good luck

I would say, just to be safe, just tell them the hours you have already done. Part of the section asks for when you started and finished doing that particular volunteer work. They'll pick up on the fact that you just started, haven't finished yet, and will do more (assuming they are pretty experienced at dissecting apps lol). If your volunteer hours are a weak point in your application, they will ask you about it in the interview, in which case you will get to say proudly "NOOOOO ive done 100 HoUrS cause im awesome! yaaay". Then they will still look at you in a sort of unimpressed manner, and move on to your next flaw. lol. Besides, your not doing it to look good, your doing it because of your love for community service....riiight?! 😀

Good luck in your apps orgodox

Thanks. Im doing it caze I LOVE organic chemistry and my school has no more advanced classes to take and this is my way to remain connected to the subject. But at the same time I DO want to look as good as I can on the application while im at it and I just think this is a stupid flaw in the application and leaves people in a tight spot.

I put down *either* total hours or average weekly hours for all my extra currics, depending on which seemed more appropriate. Nobody had a problem with that. For this, list your average weekly hours only. That is the number that most closely represents your involvement. They'll look at the dates and see that you just started but that you expect to do this all semester.
