Question - On the primary application that will be out May 1st, do we have to list how many hours of volunteer work on the application.

Do you we have to list start dates and end dates and the hours?

What about the secondaries? Do we have to state the information there?

Yeah, just put down a rough estimate. You'll also have to roughly estimate both start and end dates in month/year format. Then you have to write a short description (something like 500 words I believe).

In the secondaries though, it's really school specific. However, there is a thread here where all the secondary question prompts are posted and you can see that majority of schools will ask you about your clinical (i.e. volunteer) experience. Here you can go in more detail about it.

If you are planning for a future volunteer work or shadowing exp (which I did). Just put down N/A for the time but explain where and how long you'd expected to do. Or any current on-going one, just estimate so far how much. You can always 'try' to update them to AACOMAS later if u deem important.

Oh thanks for that! I was wondering what to do about the fact that I'm shadowing DOs this summer and would only have the MD I shadowed on there. Hell, I was thinking of applying later (like August) just so I could have those numbers and experience actually on there (and get my summer grades in, but that's another story). Your idea sounds safer, though. Since it's better to apply early etc etc.

I have a question to add on to this theme. I am going to do some volunteer research with a professor this summer. If I know the dates, hours, and description of the research then can I just enter it in the system like this.

May 09-Aug09 50 hours research
Description: Blah, Blah, Yada Yada

Or do I need to put it as dates N/A b/c it hasn't happened yet/will be in progress? Thanks!

I have a question 🙂. So is the application only considered complete once your MCAT scores go through? Should I wait to submit when my scores get in (I'm planning on taking the May 22 test), or submit before that? For some reason I keep looking for every excuse to submit late. I guess part of me just wants to put off this whole applying thing 🙁

Hmm, that's an interesting question. See the thing is that something could happen which would prevent you from completing the research in the time you specified. Maybe you can't do it or your professor abandons the project or you end up doing something completely different or anything.

I'd say just put it in as N/A or in progress. You can always write in your secondary essays that you are doing research...

Submit your application the first day AACOMAS lets you. No excuses!

Definitely a sir. (Why else would I have Quagmire as my avatar?!?)

because you like to say "giggidy"? besides, aren't people here always getting called the wrong gender? i assume that's why engineeredout boldly proclaims "i'm not a chick" right under his (her? lol jk) name.

Because some chick somewhere could have a thing for skinny, large jawed men that say giggidy alot and use the avatar to announce to the sdn world how kinky they are!
