Hi,
I'm a third year undergrad applying this june with a 524 MCAT and 4.0 cGPA. I have been volunteering at a local hospital for 2-3 years now expected to have 250+ hours by the time I matriculate. I also have about 50-100 hours shadowing 3-4 specialties. I wanted to start volunteering at another hospital that does underserved work but would that be overkill at this point? Is it better to just continue volunteering at the current hospital I'm at?
Thanks!

Why would it be overkill? If you are doing it because you like it, I don't see why you shouldn't go for it.

For the most part, there is a bit of commute and the local hospital I'm working at now is walking distance.

If you would like to do it, do it. You look solid on that standpoint though if I were you I'd probably get a paying job or enjoy my own time. But in full disclosure, I've never been shy in saying I HATE volunteering.

I can understand why you think it's overkill, but it isn't. It sounds like you've sucked everything out of one experience and want to try serving in another capacity. I would go for it.

If this second hospital will have you doing different things than the first, definitely go for it. Diversifying your experiences is valuable.

If you want to volunteer at the other hospital, do it. If you don't want to, then don't. If you're doing it to rack up more hours, don't.

I don't understand the question. What does it matter if it's "overkill" if it's something you're passionate about?

Do research. With those smarts, you better be the one who comes up with a chux that absorbs poop.
