I'm planning on applying this upcoming cycle so around June 2017. I graduated May 2016 and have full time research job at a top 3 hospital. As I'm finally settled in after starting I want to take up volunteering again but I'm not sure what direction to pursue. In college I worked as a mobility volunteer for 1.5 years helping patients walk around hallways to get moving etc., but this was only for 90-100 hours. On the other hand, my non clinical volunteering is very minimal, only like 25 hours. Since I have a full-time job I feel like it would be hard for me to do both if it is a weekly type thing, and if so, which should I focus on? Or should I try and find some that are one time volunteering positions to try and do both? I'm not sure how to do that for clinical though. Essentially I'm just trying to figure out what volunteering to do before I apply, not because of hours or anything since I like volunteering I just don't know which one to focus on in terms of my app

If you have only 90-100 hours of active clinical experience interacting with current patients, I'd suggest you focus on getting more of that.

I think you should focus on what you want to do and not what you think will look better for your app. If you've already decided on applying, then you must think that you already have enough clinical exposure. This is one of the last extended bits of time where you can explore your interests because you want to and not because you have to. If you have a non-clinical volunteering opportunity that you are extremely passionate about, then by all means, you should do it. If you really want to explore different aspects of healthcare, then by all means, volunteer in a different healthcare setting.

If I was you, I would volunteer in two different clinical activities. And I would do at least 5 hours per week, until the application cycle comes around.
