Hey all,

I'm currently in my sophomore year of college and doing great. Grades are high and things are going good!
I need to add some stuff to my resume in terms of volunteering/shadowing. I just finished my application to volunteer at the local hospital but I've read where more of a dental experience is better. How do I go about getting a ton of volunteer/shadow hours? Do you go straight to a dental office? Mission trip? Public service?

Thanks, Chase

I went straight to a dental office with my resume and asked if I may shadow there.

I just called around to different offices and asked if I could shadow there. Most places were fine with me coming in and observing.

google "dentists in my area" and just call some of their offices and see if they are okay with shadowing them. I just called my dentist and he welcomed me with open arms since I was a patient of his lol

Don't just stop at dental volunteering. Expand to community service as well, such as helping refugees, helping out at local events, or tutoring kids.

Volunteering doesn't have to always be dental related. It may be difficult to volunteer at a dental clinic in underserved areas due to HIPPA and/or resources. There's a great website where I found several opportunities to add to my resume:

www.volunteermatch.org

Good luck!

I emailed dentists and asked to shadow then. I googled dental related volunteering opportunities in [insert your state] and found that my state has an annual Mission of Mercy. I would say 90% of the states have one.
