I currently have my Bachelor's in Psychology and will begin completing all the leftover necessary Prerequisites required for application at community college, starting this May. However, I understand that extracurricular activities/volunteering is another huge aspect looked at on your application for Pharmacy school.

My question is what are the best places to volunteer that allow you to gain some experience into the Pharmacy field and look good to the schools?

Hospital! I remember volunteering about 400+ hours at a local hospital in Austin when I was doing my undergrad and I actually lucked out because I got to volunteer in the pharmacy department. Other places to check out would be either nursing homes or out-patient care facilities as these places usually need volunteers.

I also recommend hospital, especially if you live in a area where it's not full of University/College students. I tried to volunteer at the medical center within my University but it was way too competitive so just volunteered at a hospital around my parent's house.
Also, if you have small independent pharmacies around your place I would stop by and ask. That's where I gain some pharmacy experience as a volunteer at first then moved up as a per diem pharmacy assistant (I would volunteer on my normal schedule but if they needed someone to fill in then I go in and get paid).

Thank you for your responses and input. I definitely need to get on this soon!

I too agree with the hospital. That is where I started and still volunteer after 2 years.

I don't know if it only applies in California but we recently ban pharmacy volunteers inside the pharmacy. I work at an inpatient pharmacy by the way.

Options are independent pharmacies or shadowing~

Huh. I volunteer in a well-known hospital pharmacy in Los Angeles. I have a technician license, and they allow me to help with whatever they need...

I should be more specific. People who don't have any license such as HS or college students trying to volunteer inside the pharmacy. Licensed volunteers are still welcome.

Volunteering in a hospital is the best thing to do to get volunteering experience, especially to volunteer in a hospital pharmacy is even better. For the past 3 years I have been volunteering in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy at MD Anderson, I have learned alot while volunteering there.
