"Effective April 1, 2021, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) no longer counts the use of Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) benefits (chapter 31) against the 48-month limit on GI Bill education benefits such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The use of GI Bill education benefits will continue to count against the 48-month limit on VR&E benefits."
In other words, you can NOW use your GI Bill (Post 9/11) for future benefits such as Residency and receive the BAH without worrying about Chapter 31 (VR&E) taking away days/months from your residency or future school progression (undergrad to professional schooling). The old claim of "for every day you use VR&E a day is taken from GI Bill" is now left in the past.
To further clarify for calculation purposes, here is the following statement:
"If you are currently using education benefits, your monthly entitlement will be re-calculated to remove any months of VR&E previously charged as prior VA training."
