Does anyone know which schools look at what: +/- GPA vs. No +/- GPA?

I know there was a thread on this before, but I can't find it around!

Thanks for any input.

Case, BU, Tufts, NYU, and Temple look at the without +/- and I believe a few more schools from the NE region as well, but I don't remember which ones...

Thanks Princess.

Did you find this out by contacting the school directly?

Does anyone know about the U of MN?

Minnesota looks at +/-

This made my heart jump!👍

This is very good news for me.

It means the difference between 3.19 and 3.21.

It's technically not much, but it looks like a big difference on paper, especially if you don't have the hundredth position! :scared:

yes i did 🙂 . i called all 12 of my schools but didn't get a hold of all of them and am waiting to hear back...has anyone gotten an answer about this from Buffalo?

we'll see if all these schools in my area looking at without +/- actually helps me when my GPA is verified 😳

When you say they look at grades "without +/-," do you mean that they round any A- up to an A and any B-,B,B+ to simply a B? I don't understand why on earth schools would do this when the AADSAS calculates the GPA already?

AADSAS calculates GPA in 2 formats: with +/- AND without +/-

A- = A

B-,B,B+ = B

C-,C,C+ = C

some schools want this to make the 'playing field' a bit more even i think. some undergraduate institutions don't even have a +/- system and i've seen some SDNers mention A+s, which i think most schools don't have, but its not fair to look at someone with a higher GPA when they got a ton of B+s and another candidate did just as well but got an B because there was no +/-

i definitely don't think the system is perfect, i think a B- is closer to a C and a
B+ is closer to an A and in schools without a +/- the cutoffs are prob bigger, but dental schools get to do what they want

I find the +/- system frustrating. I went to an undergrad that DID NOT give out A+ , so the highest you could get was an A, even though percentage-wise it might have been an "A+". It's frustrating to see people with gpa's that are greater than 4.0!

I took all my sciences at a school that doesnt even do the +/- system and it's been a pain. I agree, there is a HUGE difference between a B- and a B+, a C- and a C+! It's frustrating to see my B+ turn into a B at 3.0 when at another school it would have yielded a higher gpa.

I wish the dental schools would be able to see my real grades for those classes. Ho well. Rant. No system is perfect.

I really think it works both ways.

My schools give out A+'s. My gpa without the +/- is 0.01 higher than with +/- (and A+ = 4.33) and I have 6 A+'s on my transcript.

exactly, thats the whole point. getting rid of the +/- is supposed to even everything out. since you have A+'s you should therefore on average have the same amount of +'s and -'s so it should even out. for schools such as mine where we have +'s and -'s but no A+'s, there will therefore on average be more -'s than +'s and the w/o +/- should be higher. it evens it out for people who can't get A+'s

Wow, I had no idea that this even existed. I feel like that's going to hurt my gpa. :scared: I s there any official source where this information is listed (such as in the ADEA book)? Or do you just have to call schools to find out?

yea i thought mine would go down too but then when i calculated it out it was actually higher by something insignificant like 0.02...

as for those schools i listed i contacted the schools and those were the ones that gave me answers
