I transferred from a cc and I'm currently taking orgo. I have a mid D at 60 percent. A 65 is a C and if I scored 60 on the next test and final and get 13/14 on two quizzes and a 23/24 on our quiz or a bit lower on quizzes and higher on tests, I can pull of a C. I really don't want a C though so I was considering just dropping it. My school doesn't offer orgo 1 during the spring so I might take orgo 1 next semester at cc... How bad would that look considering I transferred out and then dropped a hard class to take it at cc? I went from a 67 in the class with a 56 on first test to a 60 after getting a 53 on 2nd test...

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Not sure if I can really answer your question, but I thought I'd throw this out there...

I went to a Big 10 school and organic chem was one of the toughest classes... the first time I took orgo 1 I scored a D in the class... retook the following semester and got a B+... then got a B+ on my first try at orgo 2... I have 1 interview so far and 3 rejections (still waiting to hear back from 13 schools)... basically, not all is lost by getting a D in a class as long as you retake it and do decently well the second time around. My advisor told me that dropping a class sometimes looks worse than getting a D and retaking a class. Good luck!

You should check with the schools you will be applying to because some do not accept any CC credit, while some have a limit to how much they will accept. I have seen posts on this forum about students that do get in having taken courses at CC's so it is not impossible. Keep in mind that you will need to get an A if you are taking it at a CC though.

As far as the D over a W, I don't really know. Neither look great, but I doubt one looks much better over the other.

I would go with a W and try to take orgo I and orgo II over the summer. From what I heard, the summer versions are much easier. You don't want the CC for such an important class. Summer classes don't look extrememly great either, but I still think it is your best option.

Yeah the only thing I dropped before this was calc at the cc because I don't need it and it was too late. I didn't know what I wanted to do for sure. I just looked at the cc website and they don't offer orgo 1 during spring.. So I might have to take in summer and I was hoping to take a full course schedule of electives so that I can take more science classes at uni to boost gpa up.

You should decide whether a C is better than a Withdrawal first. Once you figure that out I would Then sign of for either O chem 2 and Ace it (if you take the C) or O chem 1 and 2 for the summer as Qbabi said.

I will be taking O chem 1 and 2 next summer also I think it's a good option you can focus on just Chem and Ace them both quickly plus no 3 hour labs every week for a full year.

But more importantly you need to adjust bro, I know you posted before about not being motivated. you have to get your MOTTO back and work hard or else you will just see the same grade again.

Nvm they do offer it in Spring at cc.

Are you planning on taking 1 and 2 at uni or cc??

Im defiantly taking mine at my Uni. I will have two years of CC and Bio and Chem completed I feel that the rest of my sciences should be Uni. to show im worth my salt.

I would advise you to take yours at the uni. as well. I was on tour of my Uni. campus a few days ago and It seems to be clear that Ochem is a little easier over the summer. Though it will be fast paced its just chem all day class everyday and its a support system there with your teachers.

Buuut, I have personally heard of people getting accepted to Dent school with every pre req completed at CC. You could do it at CC but I wouldn't recommend it, I mean as long as your grades are strong you can get into a school though.

So my question to you is, do you think the Uni. is way harder than CC because ill be taking Ochem as my first class at my Uni also and I want to know what im getting into.

To be honest, I'm not putting in the effort nor am I studying so I deserve what I'm getting. Others have studied 5 times more than me and only get 2 or 3 points higher, but that's none of my concern. I only spent one year at cc. I would go and look at my thread about what to study before taking orgo. I made the thread yet didn't take any advice from there and I regret it. I'm sure it would help as seeing mechanism problems over and over will help.

This route is definitely one that people in the know will advise u against. U r looking for the easy way out and adcoms will know it.

This is the problem. Don't take orgo at a cc or take it over the summer. Both are cop outs. As someone who transferred from cc to university, the last thing you want to do is signal that you can't hack it.

Retake orgo in your next academic year.

See the only explanation I can think of is orgo wasn't offered for me during the spring. I am literally not taking any pre reqs next semester because they are all full. I have to take physics 1 and 2 + lab, physio, anatomy, microbio, cell bio.i was planning on taking physics next year with micro or anatomy. If I wait until next year to take orgo I'll have to push off everything off too. I'll also have to take orgo with physics. I really don't know what to do. I have stayed with the class for 3 months now so I do have an advantage. I understand the material sort of which could help me on the dat rather than only taking it at cc. The only wrong I see in this is what adcoms will think of transferring from cc then dropping class and retaking at cc. I couldn't careless about the time it will take me to retake. I want a better grade.

Don't take organic at a community college. ...........

Have you read what I wrote right above your post?

I read your last post and dont think you should take orgo at a cc? Can you get an over ride if you talk with the professor and explain your situation? I think it would look like you couldn't handle it at your university and decided to take the easy way out at the cc.

Too late. Can't look back now. Time to move on

Hi,

I just want to chime in because this has come up in some of my interviews, I have had 5. When talking to the admissions staff, one in particular actually mentioned that they do take that into consideration. They do notice when you drop a class and take it over at a CC because it may be easier. Of course it may or may not be easier. But they do notice those that take the path of least resistense toward a high GPA.

But you know it all depends how you want to play it, it does not doom you to retake it at cc. But in the end just learn from it and adjust your efforts and study habits. In the end all they really care about is if you can deliver decent grades with a heavy course load. If you cant do that, you cant really hide it. Good Luck! 🙂

Take it at CC. You don't want a D and it seems like you are borderline C. It might not look great to take it at CC once you have transferred and i believe a lot of 4 year uni won't count any science classes taken at cc toward your major once you have transferred but I might be wrong. I took orgo 1 and 2 at cc and still got a 21 on the orgo section of DAT.

Are you joking???? a D fuk up your GPA pretty bad while a W does NOTHING to your GPA. You have no clue why someone drops a class.

retaking it in a CC sounds like a terrible idea.
