An advisor is telling me that I will receive a w when dropping a course on the first day of classes. I didn't think this made a lot of sense. It's just a 1 credit piano class, however its intermidiate and I'm not sure if there is a prerequisite for it. I was going to find out on the first day of classes because I cant get in touch with the instructor. Actually... I was able to register... so I guess theres no pre req, but not sure if I'll be able to handle it, I cant spot read yet. So I'm just worried now about that possible w.

Typically schools have the first few days of classes as a drop/add period - you can change your schedule however you want without it showing up on your transcript. Your undergraduate bulletin should have the information about that. If you're outside of the drop/add period, then most likely it'll show up as a W.

At my school, there are a few weeks where you can drop without it showing up on your transcript. I've dropped several classes on the first day (as well as added them a week after classes began), so you should be okay. Somehow, I doubt ADCOMs will be too upset with a W in a piano course, anyways.

Mine too. Talk to your registrar again and see what's up, OP.

At my school if you drop the class on the first day (only) you get a full refund and no W. Any day after that up until a third through the semester you get a W and a 75% refund. And after the two- third mark 50% refund and a WP or WF.
