WA Schools (UW, UPS, EWU)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone heard when EWU will be making their decisions? I heard by the end of March but I was hoping someone knew of a more specific week/date.

Carrie told me that they will let applicants know by the 3rd week in March, so we will find out by next week.

I just got a phone call from Mary from UW saying I am accepted so looks like they are letting everyone know today!

Do you know for sure that they are calling everyone today? Its getting later in the afternoon so I'm getting nervous that I won't get a call, of course if they're doing it alphabetically I would be on the end of the list.

I am getting nervous too! hopefully they are just calling people not in the surrounding area who would have had to wait til next week to get their letters.

Hey all, found out I'm on the waitlist. Good luck!!

That sounds like it would make sense actually, she did mention they are mailing out letters today so we all should be receiving them next week.

I would call and ask- sounds like Mary will tell people if they ask her. I live near Seattle and got a call this morning. I know they called people last night too. The class size is only 30 so I would think most have received a call but I could be wrong. She said my letter should arrive by Monday.

I called Mary- I had called her a few weeks ago and told me to call her yesterday

I just emailed Mary from UW and thought I would share this with everyone here:

1. Deadline to accept their offer is March 29 with no extensions
2. Tuition would be 16,212 plus 4,861 this year and with about 4% increase the second year
3. Plan to be in school from 8 to 4:30 from Monday - Friday

Those who got in should receive a letter from the program either today or tomorrow with those information on them.

When did you email her?? I emailed her last week and haven't heard back from her yet... Are you emailing the [email protected]?

Hi WSUCoug2010,

I emailed her this morning. I have been using the same email thread to communicate with her since 2011. I not sure if that helps.

I recommend you calling her directly if you don't hear back from her through email. Good luck!

Just found out I'm on the waiting list as well 🙂 Mary said she would know more the beginning of next week.

Just out of curiosity, what were all of your guys' stats? I'll be applying for next year, and I'm just gauging where I am.

Currently:
Undergrad GPA: 3.86
Prereqs: 4.0
GRE: haven't taken it yet
Observation: so far, ~40 hours with OHSU Inpatient Rehab, and just started at a clinic for kids with SPD
Current job: preschool teacher

Hi all- just letting everyone know I turned down my spot at UW and am sticking with UPS as it is the best choice for me. So for anybody on the waitlist at UW you should be hearing this week! They had a hard deadline on the 29th and so you should know where you stand soon. Good luck!

Your stats look similar to mine in terms of GPA and pre-req GPA. I would research the average student profile of accepted classes for the programs you want to go to and shoot for above average. For me I made sure to do around 130hrs of observation in a variety of settings (rehab, school OT, pediatric hospital OT setting, outpatient adults, hand therapy, SNF). After doing my research I realized I needed to spend a lot of time studying for GRE as I knew that would be my weakness, and so that is what I did to ensure I did above the average for the schools I applied to...I ended up with like 89% in verbal and the high 60's in math..68% maybe. Work experience for you will be a plus so play that up in your personal statement. Also I had good LOR's so choose your people wisely. I was accepted at UW and UPS both, and interviewed at Eastern but declined.

I also turned down my seat so good luck to everyone on the waiting list!!!

Where are you headed OTLove?

I'm going to UW-Madison. I heard from them in January and already had a lease signed by the time I heard from University of Washington. I was definitely a tiny bit bummed because Seattle seems like a great city to live in for a few years!

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that I turned down my spot at EWU because I was accepted at UW yesterday! 🙂

Who else is planning to go to UW next year? I know last year, a few people from this board started a facebook group so they could get to know each other a bit before classes started, and I'd love to do that this year! 🙂

Is anybody here applying to Washington schools this year?

I'm getting ready to turn in my application for UW and UPS.

Is anybody here applying to Washington schools this year?

I'm getting ready to turn in my application for UW and UPS.

I applied to all 3 of these programs. Nerves are starting to set in and don't know when to expect to be contacted by the different schools. From what I have seen on this site it has not been very consistent the last few years.

I applied to UW and spoke to Mary last week. She said they will notify everyone of acceptances in mid-March.

It's probably a good idea to call and confirm that your file is complete. I thought mine was, but Mary told me my GRE scores were never matched with my application, even though I sent them in November. I called the Grad school and they could see the scores in their system, so the issue seems to be internal. I'm going to call both the Grad school and Mary tomorrow to follow-up.

I was looking through old posts and I think applicants heard back from UPS in early-mid February last year.

I applied to UW and UPS as well, and have not heard anything. Do you know if being an out of state applicant has any influence on the admission decision? I heard EWU chooses in state residents more than out of state and didn't apply there.

At least for UW and UPS, I don't think so. When I as at the UW information session, Mary said that they don't pay attention to state of residence in the admission decision, but more Washington residents end up accepting their admission to UW than out of state applicants. UPS said something similar, though I think they do prioritize UPS undergrads.

I spoke to the staff at UPS and they said we will definitely hear in February but they did not specify when exactly. If anyone hears from them be sure to post!🙂

EWU's website said applicants will be notified if they're invited to a March interview 3 weeks after the Jan 15 deadline, which was last week. Hoping we hear back soon!

Just contacted Carrie the admissions advisor, she said they are hoping to notify applicants this Friday about the interviews. She said it has taken them longer than normal to go through the applications but their goal is Friday.

Hi there! I am not an applicant- but I am anxiously awaiting hearing anything for a loved one. Has anyone heard from ewu or pacific?

I got an email about 5pm this evening from EWU about being offered an interview for March 7th. I didn't apply to Pacific but I know one of my friends was offered an interview there in mid March (she heard from them about a week ago)

Pacific held one interview round in February, and are holding another in March. They said they will hopefully mail admission decisions by March 16th

I received an invitation for an interview from Eastern Washington. Does anyone how the interview will go? Is it a group interview? What kind of things will they ask?

I am going to remain hopeful that all the invites aren't out yet.

I know there were around 450-500 applicants and they are only interviewing around 120 for 40 or 50 spots I can't remember which. It was a very competitive year.

Just got a rejection from EWU via email. You all should be hearing from them too.

Can anyone else tell me if the message below is generic? The email said it was specific to my application but it sounds... off. I mean, there was nothing wrong with my GPA.

"Your application has been carefully reviewed and it is their opinion that following through with the items below would help strengthen the competiveness of your application.
Increase your overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) (last 60 semester graded or 90 quarter graded credits).
Retake any prerequisites that are below a 3.0 and consider retaking others to increase your prerequisite GPA score.
Rewrite your application essay. Make sure it captures the interest of the reader and has a relatable quality that the reader would find powerful and impactful. Consider using OT language and language of the healthcare environment in your essay to describe your volunteer experience and settings that you have observed. Write clearly identifiable points based on the essay question(s). "

To me it sounds like a pretty general email. Ewu has been extremely competitive the last few years and obviously schools have to narrow down applicants somehow. I personally would contact them and see if they have specifics for you

Has anyone contacted Mary at UW recently to see when we are likely to hear back?

Hey there guys! I'm a first-year student at EWU this year! I just wanted to post for anyone that will be at interview day!

There will be a group interview (you and 3-4 other applicants, one current student, and one faculty member/prof). There is also a tour, Q&A/info session, and an activity. The activity will likely be something group-based but they haven't told us exactly what it will be like. They'll ask about OT in general, why you chose it, what you bring to the table, etc. The biggest pieces of advice I can give are to relax, don't just recite what they already know from your app, and to pay attention to your interviewer. I know the profs, some are very emotional while others are much more logical/straightforward. It's important to be aware of who it is you're talking to.

If anyone has any other questions about EWU, interview day, or anything else I can help you with feel free to message me! EWU is great. We have a lot of fun and our class is one of the closest groups of people ever. Good luck all!

I called the OT office this AM. It sounds like Mary retired this year so she is no longer there to answer questions. I spoke with another woman who was very helpful and she said that acceptances would be emailed on March 12th. It sounds like it may take them another few days to get in touch with people they waitlist or reject.

Hi!
I received the exact email from EWU... I'm relieved that it is a form email. I was pretty happy with my essay, and it made me nervous about my chances at my other schools. I looked back at an older forum and someone said they talked to Carrie about how to make their app better for this cycle and she said to retake prerequisites to bring up GPA... This person had a 3.7! Mine is only a 3.4 so I doubt my essay was even read.
Good luck !

Haha, good to know yours was the same! It's really too bad they feel the need to imply that the email is somehow personalized when it isn't. I honestly don't see the point, unless it's to imply that the higher-than-average supplemental application fee was put to good use. :wacky:

Did you have prerequisites in progress? I did and I'm betting that has the most to do with it. (Been too busy lately to call and verify that theory.)

Right?? I love how it said that our applications were "carefully reviewed" and this is how it can be stronger next year, too bad they don't give real feedback and stop wasting everyones time! I did an academic update in Dec., so I think it was considered finished, I really think my GPA was too low for their standards. I wish I would have found that post from last year sooner, I wouldn't have wasted the $150.00!! Where else have you applied? I'm waiting to hear from UW (Seattle) and CSU, I also applied to a school in England...I've been at this for too long to try again next cycle🙂

I applied to lots of places all over the map, but I applied a bit late (January) because I wanted to have more coursework complete when I submitted. I've already had four offers to interview, so I know I'm a good applicant even if I end up having to reapply... it'd just be way more convenient to get in somewhere this year... I'm ready to start my career already! Best of luck to you @Bamadrex, maybe we'll both avoid having to reapply!

Anyone heard from UW today?? I've been checking my email every thirty minutes.... This process is such a lesson in patience!!
