I have a 3.3 gpa and a 21 on the mcat. I have submitted secondarys already for alot of schools but am unsure of what to do about MCAT. I have taken the august 2006 MCAT. But i dont know what is better, applying with my 21 early (right now), or waiting until the august 2006 scores come out, because of the rolling admissions cycle. I would really appreciate any guidance on this topic.

what have your practice scores been like for the august mcat?

i'm kind of in the same boat. i went ahead and applied early, sent out secondaries, etc.. but, i feel as if i'm being put on the backburner until my august scores come out.. and to make matters worse, i dont think its a good thing. which is better, being put on the backburner (and essentially forgotten) or applying late with better stats and having admissions remember you better because your app is more recent?

this is one case where the early worm DOESNT get the worm

I'm in a similar boat as well with a 3.2 Science GPA and 21 MCAT. I was worried about schools rejecting me based on those scores if I completed their secondary. I called a few schools and most will hold onto you application if you stated that you were going to retake the MCAT. So, I plan to turn in all my secondaries before my Aug 06 MCAT comes out.

So far:

WVSOM invited me for an interview.

KCOM asked if I wanted them to hold my application for my Aug 06 MCAT scores. I told them yes.

I still have a few other secondaries to fill out, but from what I hear, being complete at each school before the new MCAT scores come out is better because it's faster.

My 2cents.

How was your MCAT if I may ask?

I would go ahead and submit your applications in with your current scores but let them know you retook the MCAT in August. This way your paperwork is complete early and they can decide to offer an interview based on your current scores or wait till your August MCAT scores. I think there is no advantage to waiting for the August MCAT scores...the later someone waits in the cycle, the higher his/her stats must be to offset a late application. Best of luck!

Yea Bluemirage,
That is what I have done already. All my paperwork is done, they are just waiting for my august scores. I just hope my real MCAT score will be like my practice scores (27-29) on the practice AAMC tests. Because if I can get in that range, than it would be worth it to have waited. My top choice is western. I just visited there this past weekend, and I fell in love. Too bad its the most competitive DO school!

i got a 20 on mine... i know, kind of embarassing. i got a 3.05 overall gpa and a 3.85 sci. gpa. the most embarassing part is that i busted my ass on that test the 1st time around, i get on SDN and see people who have english as their SECOND LANGUAGE do better in verbal and naturally question my own intelligence. anyways, i felt more comfortable around it the 2nd time, so we'll see.

but i figured i'll apply early this year. if i dont get in anywhere, i promised to give it 1 more shot and apply again to all schools + carribean and go after that. i'm not getting any younger and its depressing seeing friends my age finishing up grad school/getting married/making money and i'm still at living at home with mommy and daddy. talk about failure to launch 🙄

I totally know where coming from. Good job on applying early. I hope you get in. I am still waiting for verification. I applied in august right after the MCAT.
Hope our scores rock in october 🙂
