OK so I am wondering if this is a first. 4 Interviews and 4 Waitlist letters. I have a 5th interview on April 14th at OUCOM and the timing of the interview makes me think waitlist again. I have had extremely positive feedback from all my interviewers. I am hoping this trend has to do with the fact that I will be completing my Masters in May and they say my Master's GPA (3.9) will replace my Undergrad GPA (3.1)...any thoughts? Any ideas on what my chances are for being pulled off one of these?
UMDNJ-SOM - Interviewed in Dec.
LECOM - Interviewed in Jan
NYCOM - Interviewed in Jan
TUCOM-Mare Island - Interviewed in Feb - High Waitlist
and now an April Interview at OUCOM.

As a back up I applied and was accepted to a couple Caribbean schools but that is a last resort for me.

Hey Lisa,
What was your MCAT?
I had your undergrad GPA as my science gpa and I still got in with a 27R to nycom. I too was waitlisted at SOM.
The odds are really good IMO that you'll make it off the waitlist at one of these places - any preferences?
I'm sure you've read this and know this, but calling and writing a card talking about any updates and how you want to be at that school will help. Be carfeul if you make it a letter of INTENT, I'm pretty sure you can only send ONE of those (I think it's binding). 🙂
Good luck :luck:

…. A frist? Na…. Let's see, last year I was interviewed and waitlisted at AZCOM, LECOM-E, TUNCOM, and VCOM… and that was just the DO side. I was also interviewed and waitlisted at U of Arizona, U of Chicago, U of I-Chicago, MC Wisconsin and Creighton. I didn't apply until the deadlines and didn't interview until mid to late spring.

You're not alone, there are many people who think they have the midas touch for making the waitlist. There's always hope. I was pulled off of Touro's waitlist about May 20th. Just wait until schools start asking for all those 2nd deposits, a lot of seats will open up.

Good Luck! :luck:

Also in regards to Touro, they DO have Early Decision, which if you're chosen for that means you won't have to apply again; it's a guaranteed acceptance for next year.

I'm sure you will get off the waitlist somewhere. What is your masters in?

Keep in mind that graduate GPAs rarely replace undergrad. GPAs because grad. GPAs are almost always incredibly inflated (grad schools love to give As). So, check with the specific med school to see their policy on grad school GPAs.

Good luck!

Dear Lisa,

I will commiserate with you- I have had 3 interviews and 2 waitlists. I liked TOURO Mare Island best, and there I am on the medium waitlist.
Other schools are LECOM and PCOM. Have you had a chance to talk to Dr. Haight at all?
I am kind of shy in these matters, but what I would like to ask him what being on a medium high waitlist means exactly, and what percentage of these candidates actually enters the school. I am not hoping for much. Anyway, this is a limbo, long, arduous and tiring process - I also applied to Caribbean schools but I hope to God I would not have to go.

Any thoughts on Touro?

Good luck and keep me posted!

Azra,

I have not spoken with Dr. Haight at all yet. I am not sure that is a good thing to do right now. They seem to make it known that they do not even look at the waitlist until after they have finished with all the interviews. As far as I have heard they are a school that pulls from the waitlist, however I am not sure how many they do take. I guess it is up to us to do everything in our power to make sure that we are as high on the list as we can possibly get. I am pretty sure you can not change your status from medium to high but I know you can move up within that category, so if you are the first person on the medium list you are in a much better position. I sent them a letter of intent and will make sure they get my updated transcript with my Masters completed in May. In addition, my Gross Anatomy professor from this semester agreed to write me an additional letter of rec. I think that is all that can be down for right now. I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us!

My Masters is in Biomedical Sciences, where my classes consist of actual medical school classes along side medical students...not your typical Masters Program.
