I was wondering if anyone heard anything from schools after being wait-listed? How long does it take before you hear anything back? Especially, if they stop interviewing at some schools...

Thanks for all the input..

I called Albany and they said it's not likely to move until June. Oh well, at least I will have a few months to be hopeful.

And Albany's WILL move. Have your bags packed, and your accounts settled, just in case.

I had one month between acceptance and the start of classes!

In his famous post, Jalby says something like... if you're lucky, you'll get into your choice school before march, but most likely you'll end up waitlisted at the schools you really want to go to. This seems to imply optimism towards getting an offer from the waiting pool. From someone who's gone through this before or has friends who have, is there, like, a TON of movement off of the lists... like, is late May as full of people getting offers of acceptances as late February and March? Or, is the waitlist for the most part, a polite rejection blanketed by a sense of false hope? That's the way I feel when I read some of these letters. My college roommate got into his school off of one, but the school had a small number of overall applicants.

waitlist movement all depends on the school and how presitigious it is. i can say that there is very little WL movement in the top ten schools...since people who do get accepted there tend to stay there.

there are some schools that always have a good amount of WL movement and some that vary from year to year. its hard to say how many will get off. but most movement will begin after may 15th and continue on through the summer...

i do believe one of my friends got into his school in july so even if you dont hear anything in may...there is still a chance to get in during the months of june and july and yes...even before the day of class...

have faith...keep in touch with the school to show interest and good luck.

Sometimes, I do searches for my name, and it's always cool when I pop up. Here is what I have learned from like 4 years watching the waitlist stuff on here and other information. Movement really starts May 20th or so, and if you are on a waitlist on a school that you really really want to go to, if you can convey that, you stand a very good chance of getting in. I know for sure this is taken into account at UCLA, USC, Columbia, Georgetown, Michigan, and I can't think of any others where I know for sre off the top of my head. Oh yeah, Tulane. So I would recommend writing updates with new grades, figure out why the school is best for you and why you are best for the school. (And if you say that the school is in Los Angeles and nothing else, that does not help your cause.) Hope any of that helps.

I got accepted from Temple's waitlist last week.
