I'm an incoming M1 at a program that starts us on lecture-based exams for the first semester, then moves us on to NBME exams from the second semester onwards. Should I go ahead and buy the 2017 FA or wait until 2018 is released for next semester?

I just bought the 2017 version and plan to remove binding. Changes between the two versions are minimal so I figured it's better than going a semester without the resource.

I was under the impression that you should buy the newest version during dedicated so it didn't matter.

Just get the 2017 one, mark it up as much as you want and then get the 2019 one when they release it the year you'll actually be taking USMLE.

Just focus on dominating your classes and learning the material. First aid is just a bunch of words with limited context. It's very helpful for high yield during review period. Don't freak out, you're still early in the game.

Agreed, definitely focus on the material given to you in class. But it doesn't hurt you to have first aid from the beginning and to look at the topics you're covering in class as you cover them. But definitely do not approach it with the mentality of reading from beginning to end.

I think you might be coming to my school. Wait until the spring semester to buy FA; if you want to refer to it before then, which is likely all you'll need it for, there are copies available for students to use for free. PM me if you have questions, and definitely feel free to reach out to upperclassmen via the facebook group if you're on it!
Yes, I am! Thanks! I think I'll wait then and buy the 2018 version.

Thank you to everyone else for your responses.
