Waiting For My Mailman

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
sigh
i didn't get an acceptance yet
i e-mailed mr. keenan and he said that they didn't reject me yet so .. yeah
i'm keeping my fingers crossed!

i was hoping i would be one of the ones to get an acceptance on st. patty's day.. *sigh*

Hey!,
Just a questions, are the med schools closed for the break at the moment? Cause of easter and st. patty's day? So that means no decisions are being held at this time?

I talked to ABP and basically he said that to be patient and this is just a start to a long process. I'm just hopping I get in to one! PLEASE!!:luck::luck::luck:

HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!!!!!

Hey guys, I got my first rejection from an Irish Med School yesterday: UCG. I got it by email.

Oh, well. Come on UCD!

well at least it was quick and painless!
good luck with UCD!

are you applying for 4-year or 6-year?

Hey,
Did anyone any news from UCD or RCSI this week?? Is there any sort of movement happening? I suppose they prob wait for people to accept or decline before they let people like me in😛.. Please send me something!

Thanks!

I got an acceptance package from RCSI on Monday through FedEx, but I have not heard anything from the other schools. I applied to the GEP programs.

i got the UCD acceptance package for the four year program yesterday....nothing from RCSI yet which I did interview for.

Hey,
Mr. Keenan from ABP says RCSI is sending me a rejection letter right now, but no news from the other schools. This is good news actually because it forces me to go to UCD.

hey congrats on ur admission...im still waiting for minee...
umm i hav a question about the curriculum ...duz anyone know how the curriculum is different for the 6yr program and 4yr program...and is it worth going for the 6yr program??? or do an undergrad and then do the 4yr program???

well the 6 year program is shorter in the long run, but if you feel that you need that "college life" experience, or you are unsure about medicine, then go for the degree first.

lol no im not looking for the "college life experience" ... and im not unsure bout medicine...but the costs of ireland r really expensive and i dont know how im going to pay for it...i dunno ... even if i get in...i may not accept the offer because of the expenses and yep i know that medicine is expensive and it is worth it but i dunno if it is worth it going to ireland and then trying to come back to u.s or canada...whats the use of having an irish degree when u cant practice there... or can u if ur not an EU citizen? my parents keep telling me about how all the u.k doctors are being sent back even after practicing in the u.k for 15- 20 yrs....its scary

Does anyone know when Trinity or NUIG are going to start sending out acceptances? I am waiting on all the schools and am starting to get inpatient!

med is expensive..and ofc since ur in high school, u will need a cosignor for the loans. But an advantage of irish schools is that you get an amazing education which allows you to obtain your desired residency, as compared to caribbean schools, where you might have to struggle for one.
Howeverrr...on the topic of residencies..i was going around the value md st.george forum and surprisingly, in this years residency match...theres quite a few carrib students who got amazing residencies in the US (radio-oncology, neurosurgery!!! and even anaethesiology!!).
ofc ireland is my first choice, but i think st.george is also an interesting option. what do u guys think?

i emailed abp and they told me that nuig and trinity will be sending out acceptances/ rejections during the period between march-end through early april. so i suppose this week is big?

Has anyone been accepted who went for snail mail and not fedex yet?

Hey guys

Before you all have heart attacks be aware that Paddys Day and Easter came together so offices in Ireland have only been working short weeks for the past three weeks due to the various bank holidays. So more patience is required!

Hey!
Any news for UCD or RCSI!!

Anyone get a interview letter for the May/June interviews for RCSI?
Anyone get rejected or accepted from UCD??

UCD!!!!! (or RCSI)🙄

UCD!!!!! (or RCSI)🙄

It looks like premed101 has been pretty dry too in terms of RCSI/UCD acceptances.

Dont give up RCSI yet, there interviews are in May/June but as ABP has told me, they will tell us 4 weeks before the interview.
This means we should know by april!!!!!

UCD should offer its second round soon for 6 year, first round offers are due end of this week for deposits.

Thanks

True, it will be interesting to see the results of the first round of acceptances from TCD and NUIG which are due any day now.

I am also curious about the second round offers due in the next few weeks from UCD and UCC. Historically, Canadians have seemed to have an edge in Ireland or at least applied and talked about it more.

RCSI's second round of interviews seem so far away I must admit they won't be on my radar until closer to summer.

Where are you getting your data on the applicants in Ireland and why would Canada have an advantage? Or are you just basing this on the lack of non-Canadians posting on this forum? I'm sure there are plenty of people out there applying, just not posting. Look at the views... they're huge.

a little off-topic but does anyone know if RCSI accepts post-dated cheques for the deposit?

Yes, that's correct. I made that statement COMPLETELY unscientifically. The basis was solely a comparison of successful American applicants on SDN to the masses of Canadian applicants on the PreMed101 forums. PreMed101 is 1/1000th the size of sdn yet seemly to have more acceptances. Take all of this with a grain of salt, it only really a rough rough guess.

Why don't you ring them up? You were accepted, no? I am sure they would be more than willing to give you the info you seek.

I remember speaking with the California office of ABP in August and they told me that more Canadians are accepted than U.S students. This is because they realize that on average, Canadian schools were more difficult to get a good mark in than at the U.S. And especially UofT (he reassured me that they were aware about how impossible UofT was).

wow really!!!!! thats so perfect...i m from uoft and its so true..its BAD here. i have this one course ..where the class avg is a bit high (low 70s) and literally EVERYONE in biology knows abt it, cuz its so frikkin rare.
well now, back to biochemistry assignment..cheers

Any updates with new admissions? or even rejections?? Who else is waiting??
Is there a high chance that if you haven't herd from them yet you probably will get accepted??

I can't wait lol:luck:

As an American, I could be really offended by this but it's probably true in most cases. However, there are some of us who went to really great, hard institutions... one where I went has the slogan "Where fun goes to die!" so I'm not writing myself off yet as competition for all you canucks!

The few, the proud, ... the only American posting! LOL

Don't worry, I remember when I talked to him, he told me that there were some exceptions to this general rule including: the UCs, Washington State, etc.

I went to McMaster my first semester, and got 3.7 without changing my study habits from highschool (i.e, cram on day of exam, etc.). I go to UTSC now, and no matter how hard I study, can't get past 3.5. There's like a brick wall there put up by the registrar's office. It really sucks, but oh well.

lol lawliet...i go to utsc too! i kno what u mean
i wish i accepted that offer from york 😉

Hey I'm not arguing with you--give me a break here! I have some good friends from Canada who have told me of your horror. As much as you hope I would say we have it better I would disagree... there are people with 3.7+ and 30s getting rejected from state schools... I think it's hard on both borders at this place in time--supposedly this year they expect the most applicants ever to medical school (at least in the states). And for those of us with only one or two state schools, there is no happy welcome.

Most Americans dismiss Ireland/UK for the Caribbean because of clinicals but I think there are a few of us who would prefer the unique experience over the convenience. Personally, I think we're all in the same boat... and we're all hoping it's heading to Ireland. :luck:

At the end of the day, when we're all accepted and going to medical school, I hope we can have a tall pint and talk about our life... not whose undergrad institution was harder. Cheers!

Ahhhh, i can taste the pint already.....can't wait😀

just out of curiousity....which undergrad programs and which uni's can give u a high gpa? i mean wud it be easier to get a high gpa at york for nursing vs. mac for nursing or queens?

Hi Study247,

You can obtain a high gpa through the Mac nursing program, it just takes a good ability with writing papers - can't speak about york or queens. If you seriously want to get into medicine though I would suggest you consider something other than nursing as your undergrad - I would recommend a Bachelor of Health Sciences or even a Bachelor of Arts and Science. Nothing against nursing (I am a RN), but these degrees will serve you better in terms of medicine. If you do decide to go the nursing route make sure to keep all of your options open by taking your basic sciences as electives as well as english. TRUST ME - you will be happy you took them!

I hear ya and will give a 👍 to that!

yea i wonder what will happen to those of us who dont drink in ireland lol
i geuss i will jus act drunk 😛 on party days

Toronto nerd just act drunk....haha, if everyone is wasted no one should know the difference. As for the rest of you, second round is on me! Beer, Guiness(spl?) or milk shakes! whatever you "fancy." I will dip into the 150,000 from RBC so I guess it's on them😉

I will pray for all of us...

lol! I just hope they're not reading our posts, otherwise...there might be a surprising number of students refused loans for Ireland med schools this term.

hey....thanx for replying...i applied for health science at mac but the competition is crazzy...and ib students are preferred so i don't really think i will get in however nursing duz fall under the faculty of health science ...i dunno if that makes much of a difference... and i didn't apply for arts and science only life sciences, health sciences and nursing...so i basically hav a choice of life sci or nursing 😕
oh nd i hav another question...wud u choose the university that is giving u the most scholarships? cuz york is giving me a full scholarship along with additional scholarships that ive got from banks....wat wud u choose? and also how did u guys study for the mcat... i mean what yr and did u go for additional classes to prepare for it?
thanx

... so far, I have only been rejected by RCSI.

The other ABP schools don't conduct interviews and just send out acceptances starting in March/April ???

I haven't received any interview invites for other ABP schools.

yea only rcsi does interviews...other schools send acc./rej. in feb march (first round) and then second round in april. Then on, i geuss they send acc. depending on how many accepted students pay deposits. then again some schools havent had their first rounds yet..nuig and trinity 4 example.
when did u apply? if u applied late...like me...u mite have to wait for a while..prolly july august....sept even. i wish they wud let us know earlier...but i doubt it

Hey Everyone!,

Another week has started and we are now going into april!!!!! The month we have all been waiting for!! Hopefully we all get the good news ASAP!
Good luck to you all and hopefully this mailman we've been waiting for comes soon!!!

Thanks!:luck:

Ok, so it is pretty much April. I still haven't heard ANYTHING yet from Ireland... No rejections and no acceptances. Weird huh? Anyone else in the same boat?

I applied before the Nov. deadline too... 😳

I got rejected by RCSI. Still waiting for the rest as well.

UCD and UCC have already sent out their first round offers and will continue to reject/offer in the following months based on accepted/declined acceptances.

Trinity has already sent out hundreds of rejections, and will be expected to make its first rounds in the next couple of weeks.

... I really want to go to Trinity.
