Waiting for PCOM

I have two questions for anyone who may know accurate info:

1) When is PCOM's Adcom meeting next?

2) How long after they make their decision will it likely be until I receive a letter of acceptance🙂 /waitlist🙁 / rejection+pissed+

After my other interviews, I was able to relax a little, but I am so nervous about PCOM's decision that it is all I can think about.

So... sorry if I'm a li'l annoying.

Eventhough I have asked this question (even to the OP), I have heard that they will be meeting on Feb 6th. The student at PCOM that told me this asked someone in admissions about a week ago. They usually meet on Tuesday, so this would make sense. They are usually pretty qucik to get back. After my interview, when I got my "hold for fall semester grades" letter, they met on Tuesady and I got a letter at my house in PA on saturday. However, I have heard that it can take up to 2 weeks afer a meeting, but I don't know how that would be possible.

If anyone has heard nething else, please post.
 
Is it me or is no one applying to PCOM this year haha. I always hear they get more apps than any other DO school, yet there are barely any posts about it and few interviews/acceptances listed on the walls. They need to start crawling out of the wood work and give Drmax and myself some other anxious/obsessive applicants to talk to.
 
For me, the committee met on a Tuesday (like everyone else has said) and I received my acceptance letter that Friday. I'm in-state (central PA), but the week I received the letter was Thanksgiving. So, considering the holiday, I heard back very quickly. For your sanity's sake, I hope they meet soon 😀

You wouldnt get that impression if you saw the interview room every weekday morning or attended the Accepted Students Luncheon. 😉

I am out-of-my-mind nervous right now, so I second your sentiment. This interview day cemented the fact that PCOM is definitely my top choice. I will be matriculating if I get an acceptance letter without a doubt.

I'm so nervous that my interview was a flop. It's deceiving bc the interviewers were really nice and it was hard to get a read of whether they liked what I was saying or not..

They asked me: "What are you most proud of?"

I said: "That's a good question. I'm not sure. I guess it would have to be that I am really easy to get along with and that I work well cooperatively with others. I could say that I attained a trustee scholarship or that I did well on the MCAT but those aren't things that I'm really proud of. I don't know if that's what you were looking for but..."

Interviewer: That's ok, it's ok to be proud of being a nice guy.

Me: I don't know if I'm a nice guy but I always try to be understanding and good to those around me.

I really believe that it is an important quality to have as a Dr but I don't think it's what they wanted to hear.

The rest of the questions went better, it seemed...

LOL! Just relax. Don't over think things and read into everything. Nothing you can do but wait. Try to relax. I know you really want PCOM, but at least you know you have another option if it doesn't work out. GOOD LUCK!!!:luck: :luck: :luck:

Anyone from CT heard from PCOM yet? I completed my app end of sept early oct and have not heard. I've called a couple times, got a couple vague answers and now I'm just waiting. The interview process has been going pretty well so far, but until I hear from PCOM, I'm at a standstill.

So, if you're from CT and you've heard from PCOM, or if you've heard from PCOM regarding interview status and you're out of state, please PM your location and stats, and of course any relevant information.

Im from CT and I submittted my apts in early Sept and had my interview in Nov. I am new here, so I am not sure how to PM
 
I interviewed today. It seemed to go pretty well, but it's hard to say. They specifically said they do not know when the adcom is meeting next, but said we would definately receive a letter by the middle of february.

Hope that helps.....
 
If they say students will hear by the middle of Feb, then that leads me to beleive that the meeting would have to be the 6th, or possibly the 13th, since they only meet on Tuedays and it takes a few days for the mail to go. Fingers crossed for the 6th.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. The rest of your answers had to be better than that one.

Someone there told me a number in the single digits.. I had forgotten last night, but I do think that it is the 6th that they will be meeting.

Ok, now I'm really confused. Doctors can't be nice guys? You think you have to have some type of edge to succeed in medical school or be a good doctor?? Is that some type of guy macho thing? :laugh: :laugh:

I thought so! :laugh: :laugh: Well, if you're fortunate enough to get in, I'll be on the look out for the "sharp" guy in the class!

You may already know this, but the decision letter comes in a regular (No. 10) sized envelope. If it feels very thin (like it contains a single sheet of paper), you may want to have a beer handy to drown your disappointment. If it feels a little heftier, start smiling. After opening the envelope, if you see the word "YES," in all caps and all by itself, right under "Dear Dr. Max," you can start celebrating without even reading the rest of the letter - you're in!

All of the acceptance/rejection letters have gotten sent to my aacomas/amcas-listed residence which is 2 hrs away (also probably one less day standard first-class mail from philly) from where I currently am. My dad will be the one reading them first, which makes me really nervous. I'll tell him to stop before he reads it so that I can grab a beer just in case :laugh:

Thanks for the heads-up on the letter situation.

BTW, I'm not sure I've ever heard of "sharp" as an insult but you managed to pull it off :laugh: Anyway, I really have liked everyone that I've met at PCOM and if I get an acceptance it will really be a thrill.

On a side note, my thank-you letters went out today. I sent one to Carol Fox, Marsha Williams, and Laurie Spraga (the latter two were my nterviewers) I sent one to Ms. Fox bc she was nice and took us to breakfast at the beginning of the day : ) I always thank people who give me free food and good advice!

To those who keep PMing me, the interviewers were really nice and laid back, but don't let it fool you. They are still capable of throwing you curveballs... one of the applicants from a separate interview group was asked, "How would you explain DNA to a 5-year-old?"

Aww, I didn't mean to insult you. I just thought it funny that you felt it necessary to make the point that you have an "edge." Definitely must be a guy thing. Don't want to rub you the wrong way ... especially if we end up in the OMM lab together. :laugh: :laugh:
 
I interviewed at PCOM on Jan 17th and I received my letter of acceptance like 3 days later! I was STUNNED and its definitely my first choice so I will be seeing all of you in August!!

if you do go with a roomate seperate bathrooms (even if guys) is clutch.
