If i wait until Aug 16 to apply, ill have my summer grades in and my gpa will be 3.03

VR 9 BS 10 PS 9 =28

tons of volunteering and ec's
won an award for research

but will applying in august put me at a disagvantage?

sorry for questions that might seem silly, i just decided to apply and my school does not have a very good premed advisor, he only really helps those students who are applying to MD schools

any help would make me super happy!

btw, by the end of fall i will have a GPA of a 3.2 b/c ill be retaking two classes that i did horrible in! lol

What is your GPA right now? If it is, for example, a 3.02, then apply now, but if it is a 2.1 than wait. Also, is there an upward trend or are you a B student? What do your grades look like in the prereqs? Just trying to get an idea of your previous years. I know these are weird questions, but with that low of a GPA, they become very important.

Upping your GPA (unless it is sub-2.5 now) will probably not be worth waiting that long to apply. The earlier you can apply, the better. You can update your application after you submit it when your new grades come in, and the schools will take the new grades into account. Your best bet is to probably check which schools (if any) screen applicants out with sub-3.0 GPAs and just wait to apply there. Otherwise, I'd go ahead and apply to the ones who don't. I'm sure you will get some love from somebody if you apply broadly (and smartly).

I agree with the other posters. What is your current GPA? If you are uncomfortable saying, is it either above or below 3.0?

Based on other posts, the OP's current sGPA is 2.96. With this in mind, I wouldn't wait to apply (except to schools that will screen out a sub-3.0 GPA).

so i can find out which schools screen by calling and speaking with admissions?

i was wondering if schools would even take my new grades into account, wouldn't they have already made a decision?

and my GPA has an awesome upwards trend, most of it is attributed to the fact that the school im attending now is WAY easier than the one i transferred from.😳

thanks so much for your help everyone!!! SDN is like my pre-med advisor!! 😍

2.96 is my current GPA

and applying broadly would mean applying to schools that have a range in stats?

i was hoping for LECOM-B, better call them this week😱

i guess i can definately apply to most schools right away! neeed to work on my personal statement and getting more people to write me LOR!!

thanks for the help!!! much appreciated!

Not exactly. Applying broadly means applying to a lot of schools and a wide range of schools, such as some older established ones, some new ones, some with higher stats, some with lower, etc.

But in this case, the way to err is toward schools with lower stats (if you're just looking to get in somewhere). It certainly doesn't hurt to throw in a long-shot school (or three), but make sure to apply to places at which you have a very legitimate shot.

would LECOM-B be considered low stats?😕

I don't think so, but, then again, I don't think that the school is one of the really high-stat schools either. If you like it, apply there. Make sure to apply to lower-stat schools, too.

I was interviewed at LECOM-B with a 2.79 last year.

Also, the only schools that screen 3.0 are listed as the touros and DMU, Touro-NV for one definitely does not screen 3.0 as I was interviewed there last year as well. I'd say you are safe to apply now for all schools just make sure to update in a timely manner
