Waiting until December is Torture

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Totally agree! I can't wait! It will be such a weight lifted if I am accepted on Dec. 3rd.

And that is if we get a definitive decision by then! I couldn't agree more with you.

At least there is something for you to look forward to in December.....still have not received a single invite.

It is only a month away. We can make it!

I'm finished with all my interviews. I'm not even going to think about it anymore and have some funnnn!!

So how does this generally work? On December 3rd will schools send out enough acceptances to fill their class size, and then as each person turns them down they send out more acceptances? If December 3rd comes and goes without us hearing a sound, should we look forward to December 4th, or are there other major dates that schools generally send out a second batch of acceptance letters? Like will they just keep sending more out every single day until they fill their ranks, or will they send some out December 3rd, some out January 1st, then some more out February 1st, etc.?

Traffic rules state that AADSAS schools can't give acceptances until Dec 3rd. Once that deadline passes, admissions becomes rolling. This is different for each school.

Some schools will give out a ton of acceptances based mostly on pre-Dec interviews (Case), far more than they have seats, based on their historical yields. At this point, they'll have nearly a full class and they'll use post-Dec interviews to fill gaps.

Some schools are pretty much rolling the entire time. Tufts gives a handful of interviews every week or so and accept who they like.

Some schools may hold back their acceptances and put ppl on standby or the waitlist until they're done interviewing everyone (Harvard). UConn does this to an extent: they take in-staters off their waitlist.

DocToothache has a thread showing how post-Dec interviewees are competing for ~1/3 the amount of seats as pre-Dec. For most schools, I think admissions becomes a giant game of Musical Chairs/Secret Santa (for schools). Schools try to fill with the best candidates out of the pool of ppl who haven't gotten into any school (or their top choice).

I don't know if schools actually give an equal number of acceptances to their class size. No school has 100% yield so it's inefficient not to give more acceptances than seats. If you only give enough acceptances as you have seats, you'll be left with at least a third of your school unfilled when your acceptees' deposit deadline comes.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've finished my interviews and have calculated my chances a million times. During this idle time I've almost convinced myself that I need to apply to more schools. I need to start a project or this will be a long November

just finished my last pre-dec interviews yesterday (2 more in jan). Now to kick back and wait to hear the results.

GOOD OR BAD GUYS, WE ALL TRIED OUR BEST!

best of luck to all and hope to see you guys on the other side =)

Totally agree....I am so stressed out that cannot focus on studying for my exam which is on Tuesday.....but I am reminding myself at least its not towards the end of December....so yeah 30 Days..14hrs...30min....20sec

have my last pre-dec on the 14th which breaks up the month a little bit. Hope to hear some good news in Dec. I hope 3 interviews is good enough for at least one to bite.

About a month to go now. Hold strong guys. This is complete torture.

Four years went by fast. Hopefully we'll all be fortunate enough to go through this again for the next four years. Those who want to be an OMFS might be even more fortunate enough to live like this for the four to six years after that. Sooner or later, we'll be counting down the number of years it'll take for us to pay off our debt. Then count the number of years till we pay off our practice. After that we'll count the number of years till the kids move out. Then count the number of years left till we retire. At last, we'll finally get to count the number of years till we croak. It's always one life goal after another.

It's best to spend as much time during the present doing something you love while enjoying the less tangible things in life in order to distract your functionally nihilistic self from your existential angst as much as possible.
Anybody know how to make reading and memorizing texts while hunching over a desk or managing every minute of your life around a predetermined exam schedule enjoyable? 😀

November is like reaching a climax until December hits and one of two things happen. Either it'll be wondrously relaxing bliss or it'll be a regretful sticky mess.

3 weeks 5 days 13 hours 15 min 30 seconds....

Yeah! Actually the past 2 months (interviews and such) has flown by, I can't believe it's November already. Almost there!

I'm a reapp and feel so old (22) lol. Time goes by sooo much faster the second time around.

I'm a first time applicant and I'm 23. I definitely feel old! Especially since all my predent friends are 20-21. It is taking forever to get to Dec. 3rd. Good luck everyone!

Lol, I'm 26. Should I be preparing for menopause according to your logic? Come on, don't be silly. Age becomes sort of arbitrary and abstract in dental school, because no matter how young or old, everyone is in the same doodoo for 4 years. If you don't look 50, you will when you graduate.

I'm 20 too! December baby all the way. I look young too, so that doesn't help matters when I will be going on interviews. Getting asked in June why I am not in high school gets old quick lol

You must be real smooth with the ladies, Rico Suave.

Lmao!

As for me, it's even more stressful. T__T. I only had 1 interview so far, no other invites. So, it's all or nothing for me. Just wanna get it over with!!

The invites seem to be somewhat batch dependent. When did you apply? And how many did you apply to? The average seem to be that 50-70% are accepted pre-december and the rest are spread out through the Spring. There's nothing wrong with getting a late Jan through early March interview and getting accepted in the spring.

That makes two of us.

Getting glucosamine and aspirin for these aching bones and imminently failing health. Don't forget the Vitamin E to put off Alzheimer's at least for a little while.

I'm 22, but will be receiving my masters before I enter next year.... I feel like a grandpa.

:scared:

Don't worry, you will probably forget where you placed them. You might need to get life alert so when you have fallen you can get back up as well. lol old geezers

Less then I month left!

BTW, NYU says they might send everyone who is accepted an email Nov 30th.

I called them on the phone a couple of weeks ago and that is what they said. They said unless ADA doesn't want them to do it, they are going to go ahead with it.

Nice, they snail mail everything anyway, so it's not like the message is received on that Friday. But this is great!

Maybe I'll feel this kind of anxiety after I actually finish my interviews lol. Havent gone to one yet. Yay to November interviews!

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile
