General Admissions & OTCAS Waitlist Chances

Hello! I've recently been put on the wait list at two universities, and quite honestly am not sure what that means for my chances. Is there any encouragement/advice to anyone in my shoes or have been that can give me better insight into this. What are the chances of getting into a program after being put on a wait list before their class roster was even full?

It depends on the program. Also, if you're still in school and keep them updated, at some programs it can bump you up (or so I've heard)! It's still early, so there's plenty of time for you to get in somewhere. I haven't even gone to my first interview yet or put in all my apps (to my non-rolling schools).

A lot of people just put money down to reserve their spot at a school till they find out where else they've gotten in. I'd say the waitlist is the next best place to be, there will definitely be movement

an accredited school is an accredited school. Because I'm an older student and I'm just starting my second year now I will offer you this..work ten times harder than everyone else, be willing to go to school almost anywhere, though, the closer you are to home, the better. Just don't let anything stop you..

I think without knowing more information (your stats and the schools) it's hard to say. I can however suggest the type of data you'd need to get a better idea of where you stand.

1.) How many applications did the school recieve this cycle vs last cycle (you can then compare how many people were taken from the waitlist last year)

2.) How many students get put on the waitlist and if they rank the list what position are you?

3.) When do the students who have been accepted have to accept or decline by. This way you'll know when to hopefully hear something around that time.

4.) When is the final communication date (when final Rejections are sent out)? The closer you get to that date the less likely you'll be sent an acceptance.

5.) How much does the program cost, expensive? Students who have been accepted and even placed a deposit down, may end up declining if they are accepted into a more affordable program.

Like the other people on this thread have mentioned, it may depend on many different factors. But just to give you some positive energy, I just received an email on my acceptance into a school that I had been wait listed at since January. Now my issue is deciding between which schools to attend. Never thought I'd be in this position to be honest. But the point of me writing all this is to tell you don't give up hope!! You never know.

I was waitlisted to 3 of 4 schools last year when I applied a 2nd time. I got denied acceptance for all, but I didn't really do much to try and show interest. This year, I was waitlisted to 4 of 7 schools I applied to, and found some helpful information on this site.

I managed to get off of one waitlist, but was offered admission to the U of Minnesota, so I went for that instead. Good luck! Look into whether the school is ok with you sending a letter of continued interest. If so, I would look into writing one of those.

I was waitlisted to St. Kate's, and I just had them take me off the waitlist. I do hope that means you will get accepted! How awesome!! I was also waitlisted to Elmhurst College, and Carroll University.

Last year I was waitlisted to Washington University, Midwestern University, University of Minnesota, and I can't remember the last one.

Hello! I'm on the wait list for my dream school, West Coast University! Positioned at number 9. I'm hopeful that I could get in but I'm a bit hesitant at the same time about my hopefulness. I saw someone mention a letter of continued interest and I think that's a great idea! Would that be best sent out within a week of wait list notice or could it be sent about a month after when there may be more movement in the wait list and they may have forgotten about me lol and it could be more of a reminder and a continued interest when I have been waiting for quite awhile?

I would also like to know what people think on my chances of getting in just because I feel like being 9th is kind of awkward because I couldn't imagine people denying a school that they're accepted to especially after putting down a deposit!
