Guy, I have been a long time lurker, and I have to say that this thread and many others have been extremely helpful to me throughout this process.
I retook my MCAT (original 32) on may 31st, and was desperately trying get my app together in time to submit by the end of the week. Incredibly I was pulled of the wait list from my top choice yesterday. Just wanted to drop in here and tell you guys to not lose hope. It may be reasonable to face reality about this cycle and start putting your efforts into the next cycle, but don't give up hope on your dreams and aspirations. Don't listen to people who say "oh another year... think of all the lost income bro" or give into the thought that this next will be a waste of time. Enjoy your life, spend time with friends and family, do things you like, get a job and travel, volunteer, and take classes that interest you (and boost your gpa if you need it). This next year is not a waste, it might just be the best year of your life... you never know.
For those of you fortunate enough to live near your parents, spend time with them, life is unpredictable, and you never know what will come knocking. My mother was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, and in a way, I kinda wish I could have stayed home and been with her for the next year. Regardless, when I told her the news of my acceptance, she was happier than I had ever seen her, almost made my tear up.
I want to thank all of you for all your comments and conversations on SDN, its been an immense help to me and others I'm sure.
Never lose sight of hope. As humans we are fueled by hope; we get through every day with the hope of a better tomorrow. Without hope, we stop dreaming, and soon enough we stop persevering. In short, don't let life pass by while you make grand plans for it. Enjoy it.
