Waitlist Support Group

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Guy, I have been a long time lurker, and I have to say that this thread and many others have been extremely helpful to me throughout this process.

I retook my MCAT (original 32) on may 31st, and was desperately trying get my app together in time to submit by the end of the week. Incredibly I was pulled of the wait list from my top choice yesterday. Just wanted to drop in here and tell you guys to not lose hope. It may be reasonable to face reality about this cycle and start putting your efforts into the next cycle, but don't give up hope on your dreams and aspirations. Don't listen to people who say "oh another year... think of all the lost income bro" or give into the thought that this next will be a waste of time. Enjoy your life, spend time with friends and family, do things you like, get a job and travel, volunteer, and take classes that interest you (and boost your gpa if you need it). This next year is not a waste, it might just be the best year of your life... you never know.

For those of you fortunate enough to live near your parents, spend time with them, life is unpredictable, and you never know what will come knocking. My mother was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, and in a way, I kinda wish I could have stayed home and been with her for the next year. Regardless, when I told her the news of my acceptance, she was happier than I had ever seen her, almost made my tear up.

I want to thank all of you for all your comments and conversations on SDN, its been an immense help to me and others I'm sure.

Never lose sight of hope. As humans we are fueled by hope; we get through every day with the hope of a better tomorrow. Without hope, we stop dreaming, and soon enough we stop persevering. In short, don't let life pass by while you make grand plans for it. Enjoy it.

Lot's of good and bad news, congrats and I am sorry to hear. I know what you mean about spending time with the parents, makes them feel happy too. I am sure you may have considered it, but perhaps you could defer for a year? The school I am wait listed at is actually very adjusting to personal issues and let you take time off for them.

Either ways, good luck in the future!

@gyngyn do you know if USF Morsani has had any waitlist movement? That board has been really quiet.

Thank you!

i would much rather have no movement. When there is and you're not part of it your heart sinks with each acceptance post
Nah, for those without an acceptance it's all about the movement keepin' on moving. It does sink with each acceptance yes, but it is better than stand still.

@gyngyn Thank you for your help! Chiming in with my two WLs - see anything from SUNY Buffalo (UB) or VCU?

I would ask about my two, Mercer and MCG but I somehow suspect that you don't have a ton of overlap with them. 😉

@gyngyn What about Columbia? Has there been a big burst? a few trickles? No one is posting on the thread.

@gyngyn First of all, thanks for offering a voice of reason, insight, and even comfort for both the aspiring and the hopeful on SDN.

I have couple of questions. I took MCAT twice. Do California schools like UCs and USC take the average of the two or the higher score? Also, do you expect any waitlist movement at any of the these? They are unusually quiet compared to prior years making me think if I should consider reapplying.

Each school and each evaluator can choose how they interpret multiple scores. Even the reported methodolgy can be quite variable. I've seen averaging all scores, the most recent scores, the highest scores, even picking and choosing subscores. In my experience, the actual interpretation of performance is interpreted idiosyncratically by each reviewer without regard to a schools public response to this question.

There has been remarkably little movement in CA this year, though I have seen the usual amount at UCLA.

@gyngyn : Do you know of any recent movement at Rosalind Franklin? May 23 was the most recent acceptance off the waitlist on the school-specific thread. I'd appreciate any additional info. Thank you!

Sitting on an acceptance to an OOS school and waitlist for my IS. Ten more spots to go, but OOS school starts mid july. Refresh >30 times a day. This is a new level of hell.

I feel you!!

@gyngyn Do you have any information about movement at SLU? There's been some rejections/a couple acceptances on the school-specific thread.

Thanks! (Good to see it's moving a little based on the thread)

No, not here. In fact, I didn't see anything move in the last 24 hours.

Hug!

For everyone still on waitlists, don't give up. In the grand scheme of life, what's another year (or 4)?
I finally got in my 3rd cycle applying and am so happy for the support that SDN has given me along the way.

hi @gyngyn do you have any information about movement at Creighton? In past threads, the waitlist movement started this past week but so far we haven't heard anything on this year's thread. Thanks!

I haven't seen anything from Creighton, sorry.

To those of you having waitlist angst, who haven't been accepted anywhere this cycle, don't give up hope. If it doesn't happen, please try again.

I was waitlisted at two MD schools last year (applied to 5 MD and one DO). This cycle I applied to 12 (8 MD, 4 DO) and was accepted at one of my top two DO schools. Some of you who only want MD might not think that's great news, but I was thrilled. I think I ended up at the school that was the right fit for me. I wish you all the best.

Well, just got an email from the school I'm wait listed at telling me their class is full.... 🙁

Hold out hope! That doesn't mean people won't drop between now and orientation if they're accepted from a wait list at a higher choice.

I don't have a lot of overlap with W Michigan so the fact that I haven't seen any doesn't mean there hasn't been any!
Thanks, when u say overlap what do u really mean? U mean ur school is affiliated in some way or?

Every time I hear of movement at Top Tier schools, I get renewed hope there will be movement at my schools.... although at this point I feel like my chances are worse than USA moving on from Group G this year
Everything rolls downhill!

Which school if you don't mind me asking? I know we're waitlisted at one of the same schools so was curious...
