Waitlist Support Group

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys, I've been lurking on here for a while. I was waitlisted at three schools, and today I received notice that one of them had accepted me. I am extremely relieved and excited, so don't give up just yet!
So... If you saw movement FROM Case, do you think they will be giving offers out TO case? Didn't see anything in the school-specific thread.

If someone left Case for another school, then, yes, Case will make an (offer unless they already had two offers out).

@gyngyn @Goro Does registering for classes count as matriculation?

edit: Just seeking clarification because I'm waitlisted at my top choice

You can remain on a waitlist until orientation or beginning a pre-matriculation program.

Really? Crap, gotta start withdrawing. I've been lazy... Thought they'd just reject me sooner or later.

What would be considered "pre-matriculation"? For example, would putting down a deposit or filling out vaccination forms be considered "pre-matriculation"?

No. A program with classes or preparation for school of any kind would be considered a pre-matriculation program.

How about a financial aid presentation, health insurance and a white coat information session in June?

It's called "pre-orientation" in June. Subjects to be covered are financial aid, curriculum, student stressors and student health, plus fingerprinting. Orientation right before classes is in august.

Each school declares a date when orientation begins. If this date includes the activities you have described no school will lift you from their waitlist without breaking a traffic rule. AMCAS distributes this list of dates to all of us. Without knowing the school I cannot tell you if this is part of orientation or not.

Now I am starting to be convinced this is a conspiracy, I just learned one of the schools may not have updated my file to state that I confirmed my spot on the waitlist, even though I did via email (which is how they wanted it confirmed)... twice and gave update letters and called in to ask about movement. It had been verified that they changed the file. If my file was reset somehow I am just going to redefine annoyed and ticked off.

Thank you @gyngyn for all your help and speedy responses! Would you mind checking for Case, too? I'm just concerned because classes start so early

@gyngyn What about starting at a program that doesn't participate in AMCAS? For example, Sackler or one of the other schools in Israel. If theoretically someone got off the wait list once they've already started at those schools can he accept the spot and leave the school in Israel?

Can you imagine what the cost of the flight and the moving expenses would be to and from Israel though?

That being said if anyone wants to give up their spot at Ben Gurion and tell them to offer it to me (I was rejected without interview) I would be happy to take it. My rabbi wants me to go to Sackler though.

Just got accepted off a waitlist!!! I've definitely visited this thread so many times, so thank you to everyone for keeping hope alive. Crossing my fingers for the rest of you!!
Congrats! Where at?

Acceptance (or matriculation) at a non-LCME accredited school will not be apparent to an LCME school where you are on the waitlist.

Anyone know whats going on with UCLA? haven't heard anything in forever

no acceptance. been telling myself it's not over till it's over, but hope is fading.. at least i'm not going to apply this cycle, but i feel devastated (sob)

I feel ya. :-/
On 3 waitlists and idk if it'll happen at any of them. Also won't be reapplying until next year so I can actually make my application better.

Hey @gyngyn would you happen to know anything going on with Drexel? I know there are some final decision statuses going up as of this week but are they both rejection and acceptance notifications? Or do you believe it would more likely be the latter?

Sorry, no intel on Drexel...

gosh, I hope I don't end up in this thread. I got a 31 MCAT, so hopefully that spares me from the pain of the waitlist

Same here - Recent UF grad - 7 interviews early in cycle and 6 LONGTIME wait lists (5 in Florida) 1 OOS. Oops make that 5 FL wait lists -- rejected by FSU a few weeks back. Rejected by USF SELECT after interview -- questioned higher price. 32 MCAT. 3.7 GPA and Good/Great LOR, plenty of shadowing and volunteering. No research. Part time work as a coach every spring (track). Experience abroad in Spain and Peru. Spanish major. Life… Sad & Mad

31 aint keeping anyone off the waitlist, sorry. MCAT scores are high across the board and only getting higher.

That said, I've seen some of the highest highs of the entire application process on here. I'm sure if you have a good application you'll be fine regardless.

I graduated from UCF so I know how you feel in regards to the Florida schools. I was rejected by FSU the Friday before orientation lol. I know of other Florida residents who did not have any Florida interviews so you're not alone.

UCLA has been moving for some time.
Sorry to keep pestering you about these school updates but have you seen movement from UCLA over the course of several days and it's still moving or was it one big wave of movement? Thanks so much for doing this for all of us!

@gyngyn do you have any information on Saint Louis University? There has only been one accepted off the waitlist on SDN so far. I have followed past threads and there seems to usually be a decent amount of movement.

You know, this thread was created to SUPPORT those people who are on waitlists, not for people to come here and post about how much they don't want to end up on this thread next year! I've been lurking this thread for a long time since I'm also on three waitlists and everyone is so sympathetic towards others that are still on waitlists and congratulatory towards those who get accepted and it's helped make me feel better about this whole process. It's not very supportive to post on here how much you don't want to be in our situation next year, is it?
I notice all your other posts say things like "I heard this is an easy school to get into." THERE IS NO EASY MEDICAL SCHOOL TO GET INTO. Especially not when you're banking on a 31 MCAT and 30 hours of hospital volunteering. I have a 35-37 MCAT/3.6-3.8cGPA/3.8-4.0sGPA with over 200 hours of medical volunteering. And I haven't gotten in to a medical school yet this year. I've seen similar stats on a lot of people in this thread! I realize that you just joined SDN yesterday so you don't know what it's all about, but please try to keep these type of insensitive comments to yourself.

Rejected at one of the two schools I am waitlisted at...

and the "bulk" of the movement already moved for my last school... Depressed severely right now
