There have been bursts of acceptances over the last couple of weeks and as recently as the last two working days.

It's normal to be sad. Don't forget to find pleasure in the things that interest you. You will live to fight another day.

I mean no offense, but I was rocking only WLs with my 37/3.8+

This process is tough and med school admissions process is about way more than grades. It is very humbling when you need to many people on the admissions trail with stellar accomplishments. Completely possible to be WLed even with a 45 MCAT.

I know what it is like to not get into medical school. My first cycle was completely unsuccessful. Even my second cycle was hell. I just want to Let you know that you should try hard not to get depressed. Let it out, punch a wall, go for a run.

But after, plan ahead:
- contact schools to get suggestions
- take a gap year (I've taken more than I planned but ended up loving them). Enjoy you 20s (?) plus have time for research + volunteer + service. Find a job, make some money.
- improve your app. If you need to retake MCAT and plan on applying 2015 then you have time, study then kill it. If you need grade repair, take some post bac classes.
 
there is always hope, but be persistent
my first year application - one waitlist and rejected
second year - gap (some work, planning ahead, took course for MCAT)
third year - grad school in pharmacology & toxicology (lots of research), reapplied and here I am
 
@gyngyn Any news on the wait lists at either Yale or Penn? Both threads are pretty quiet...

@gyngyn Would you happen to know anything about Keck USC? It's been really quiet on the school-specific thread.
 
I think the hard part is many of us who applied this past cycle will have to reapply in the next cycle a year from now (2015 cycle) (and no later) otherwise we will have to take the MCAT again. I really don't want to take the MCAT again!

I notice all your other posts say things like "I heard this is an easy school to get into." THERE IS NO EASY MEDICAL SCHOOL TO GET INTO. Especially not when you're banking on a 31 MCAT and 30 hours of hospital volunteering. I have a 35-37 MCAT/3.6-3.8cGPA/3.8-4.0sGPA with over 200 hours of medical volunteering. And I haven't gotten in to a medical school yet this year. I've seen similar stats on a lot of people in this thread! I realize that you just joined SDN yesterday so you don't know what it's all about, but please try to keep these type of insensitive comments to yourself.

If my comment offend you, that is your problem. Does it not suck to be on the waitlist? All I was saying is that I do not want to end up on the waitlist and I think anyone who says they want to is a liar. I apologize if you were offended by my comment. And even though I started up yesterday, I've been on SDN for the last 3 months, so I'm not a newbie.

Some things don't need to be broadcasted to the world unless you have self-esteem issues.

Obviously no one wants to end up on the wait list, that's the entire point of this thread: to support those put into that undesirable circumstance.

Thank you for reminding everyone here of their misfortune.

It seems rather clear that this guy/girl has very little to no idea about the application process.

He/she just told somebody from AZ to retake the mcat and apply to Wayne State because it is one of the "easier" ones to get into. I literally lolled.😕

You also don't know what else went on with that individual with a 24. What they said, what their application actually looked like. Might have lied on the application or lied to you.

One person is not going to sway an admissions committee so I doubt their sibling had that much sway. If s/he did, I wish my parents had produced a sibling for me to get me into medical school.

I'm with ya bro. I'm a 3.85, 35 MCAT and I'm holding onto two WLs.

To all the new applicants.. don't be shocked if the inevitable does happen... You can be the most well rounded applicant and rock your interviews... and still need to reapply. It is ultra competitive out there. Everyone who gets an interview is more than qualified to become a doctor.

This is getting off-topic but considering the person's comments on this thread, and comparing it to another thread they started on pre-medical, I would not be surprised if they in fact have fabricated his/her application. There was a thread where this person is deciding whether to rat out another applicant for lying on their applications.

On topic...wait lists suck. I am on a ranked wait list and was told my specific position was given a spot mid-June last year. When I asked an ad-com member about this year, they said it was moving much slower. Even though all my over analysis has told me it is only probably 5-8 spots behind last years, all I can do is hope for the best. Waiting sucks...but knowing you have a legit chance with waiting sucks even more. Wish I could just get a concrete answer and know my next steps. Hopefully the waiting pays off especially being this close. It has made me realize one thing though, being so close, ain't no way I am giving up.

gah that sounds awful. sorry to hear about your situation. focus on what you can do to improve yourself. i'm in the reapp boat and that's what i'm trying. baby steps forward 🙂

The same thing literally happened to me.

A religious medical school located in a sunny state rejected me, telling me that my 3.5+ gpa was too low. But, they turned around and accepted someone with a 3.0/24 because they have family members in the church and I don't.

This place was one of my top choice for religious reasons. But I am glad that another medical school pulled me off of their waitlist.

In the end, it worked out for the better because schools that are so legalistic and bound by numbers don't truly appreciate your worth as a candidate.
 
Hang in there guys. I've seen a lot of waitlist movement at many schools.

I think there was possibly some movement at UPenn last week based on a friend's Facebook post, but I can't confirm it was 100% due to the wait list. Unfortunately, I think if it moves at all, it's going to be very slow. Not sure about Yale, but I feel like as with many top schools any spots that open up from here on out will be quite rare. Keep those fingers crossed though!

Out of curiosity, do schools usually have a set number of applicants they put on the waitlist, such as 20% of the class size (so, for a school with class size 100, they put 20 people on the waitlist)?

I know one school I apply to has double the amount of people on the waitlist as there is entering class. So 100 people in the class, 200 people on the waitlist.
 
@gyngyn already getting ready to reapp, but just out of curiosity, seen anything from Duke? 🙂
