I believe much of the wait list movement for NYU happens April onward.
Then is it impossible to get out of the waitlist before April?

No it is not.
Just have a better chance of getting off in April.
There's a ton of movement on NYU's wait list.

While it may not be impossible, I think its unlikely. I have no insight into admissions but as long as NYU is still interviewing and handing out acceptances each week, I would suspect there would be no major wait list movement until that is completed. Until then, if you really wish to attend NYU, I would demonstrate interest until then by calling/emailing. You may also look at last year's thread to see when stuff happened, seems near the end of March people starting coming off after interviews were completed/deposit deadlines passed: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...17-interview-acceptance-thread.943707/page-13
Edit: Okay so n=1 below with September interview, December 2nd wait list.

I interviewed back in September, was waitlisted on Dec. 2, and accepted off of the waitlist today. PM me if you have any questions. GL!
