I thought I would start a thread for people who have been waitlisted this year.

I have several acceptances so far, and have put a deposit down at TUCOM, but I am still holding out hope for my #1, Western/COMP, who waitlisted me. Does anyone know what the chances are for getting a spot off the waitlist? I interviewed in early December, so does that mean I am higher up on the list vs. someone who is waitlisted later in the cycle?

Any information would be helpful!

I don't think the waitlist goes in order of when you interviewed.

Is TUCOM the one in California? I got high waitlisted at the one in Nevada. Also waitlisted at LECOM-B

To my knowledge, there are schools that waitlist by order. There may be schools that waitlist based on how desirable the candidate is?

If you look at how many people get interviews and offers extended, versus the class size, you should be able to get a pretty good idea of how many people get off the waitlist.
At some DO schools they extend offers to ~500, but their class size is ~200.
At my state school, only ~35 people move up off the waitlist though.

I'm waitlisted at 3 schools right now and kind of irritated with the whole waitlist concept.

Some schools definitely wait list by desirability but i think it's usually in the form of "high, med, low" waitlist with order of interview being the deciding factor on that particular sub-list. Touro-NY does it that way, at least last cycle. The actual rubric used to do all this is quite confusing and maybe someone more knowledgeable can help but it's usually something like "x amount of acceptances accept our offer...x amount of those will eventually not attend for whatever reason....eventually equals a certain amount of people waitlisted. "

I'm waitlisted at 3 schools right now and kind of irritated with the whole waitlist concept. I'm already in at my #1 choice but I would still like to know that I got in at the other schools.

If I got into my top choice I would just withdraw my applications from the rest of the schools that I would be waiting on. No reason to take up spots for other people just for the sake of your own fulfillment when you have no intention of attending those schools.

amen. Be confident in yourself. Also, just like in relationships, there are going to be schools that don't like you just because. Don't let that need for affirmation drive you..

+1. after getting my top choice, i withdrew everything. i dont really care how desirable i am to them nor do i care about bragging on how many acceptances i got. i got the one i wanted, no sense in holding on to an acceptance at a school there is no chance of me attending.

Hi all, thanks for your responses. I did some snooping around on Western's thread from last year. Apparently they start putting people on a deferred waitlist and guarantee them a spot the following year. They start pulling from this list in May, and then they go to the regular alternate list in June/July 😕

So people who get interviewed later and put on the deferred list have a better shot of getting a spot than people on the regular waitlist. It did look like a lot of people got moved up though, and a lot of people turned down their acceptance from the waitlist if they were already going somewhere else.

A lot of people recommended that people on the waitlist do something to add to your application, i.e. volunteering or getting extra letters, and updating them monthly on your continued interest in the school.

I'm not sure what the waitlist policies are at other schools...good luck to everyone! :luck:
