I have heard back from all the schools I applied to (11 schools) and I haven't been accepted to any of them yet. However I am waitlisted at 6 of the schools I applied to. I'm not really sure what I am supposed to do next. Keep waiting, begin trying to strengthen my application (more shadowing hours, retaking classes, GRE etc.) and reapply in this upcoming cycle, or even looking into different masters programs? Everyone keeps telling me that being on 6 waitlists my chances look pretty good at one school accepting me, but the later in the year it gets I get more concerned. Anyone have any insight or advice for my situation? Thanks!
Waitlists:
University of Miami, Nova Southeastern, University of North Florida, Lynchburg College, Elon University, and University of Michigan-Flint.

Stats?

6 waitlists is a lot to be on for sure, but most schools pretty much have their classes sorted at this point, other than the few stragglers that are still trying to make up their mind. So without knowing your stats I'd put your chances as moderate to decent.

Really all you can do is wait it out and see if you get in anywhere. Have you contacted each of these schools to ask where you stand? It might alleviate your anxiety a bit to know what your position on each of the waitlists is. Some schools may not tell you but most will. Ask them how deep they have typically gone into their waitlist in years past. Then you'll know if you have a shot at all and how worth it it would be to start working on reapplying now. Also, be sure to ask each school what you were dinged for on your application and what they would recommend specifically you do to improve and become more competitive.

You could potentially be submitting another round of applications in 3 months so it'd be good to figure this out. This will be important if you are going to apply/re-apply to schools with rolling admissions. Of course if you are going to retake classes then you will obviously be sitting this cycle out. Now's the time to call each school and then start figuring out your timeline.

Let us know what info you come up with and how else we can help. 🙂 Sorry about your bum luck...

Also, if your goal is still to get into PT school, 9 out of 10 here are going to advise you strongly against doing a masters. It is too much money for how much it improves your application. You are better off incurring a lot less debt and retaking any pre-reqs you didn't do well in at a community college.

But more on strengthening your app later, once we know more about where you officially stand.

Like most things with DPT applying, you just gotta wait it out. There is a lot of time until matriculation, schools are shuffling students all the time. Students that were accepted into multiple programs don't really have any incentive to announce a decision to one school just yet, so they just stay on the list. I would wait until late May before starting to fret.

It looks like you are interested in the state of Florida, so you can always apply St. Augustine. They are trimester and accept 3 new classes a year.

Keep hope! I'm a first year at Nova and a few of my classmates got off the wait list the week before class started so you never know!

I declined my seat at Nova just yesterday so hopefully that opens up for you!
