Waitlisted at Pitt

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Lol!!!! >) It seems my family cannot tell the difference between Penn and Pitt....it was a Penn rejection, but I already received that via email! Alas, all that adrenaline waisted! The waiting continues.....

hey guys just to let you know, my boyfriend withdrew his acceptance at Pitt so hopefully that will open a spot for one of you guys! good luck

Does anyone know if Pitt will be sending out a second notice to waitlisted people indicating where they are on the waitlist (ie: top/bottom half), or is our vague initial letter final?

deleted my post

I'm accepted at Pitt, but I will go to ANY California school over Pitt....I desperately want to stay home or close to home....I'm not an East coast guy.....if I get off one of my waitlists or hear anything from schools I'm waiting on I'll definitely withdraw from Pitt that same day

Or maybe somebody who is accepted to a california school who wants to go to pitt can work out a trade with me....

Do, uh, imaginary California schools count?

bump...

anyone get news from pitt recently?

oh yeah, good call...that would be good to keep udated here if anyone hears back from them. i'm doubting that we will hear anything before may 15, but who knows!

They won't tell us anything till after may 15...i can wait a couple weeks.

Do you guys know if it's a sudden wave of acceptances mid-may, or is it more steady through the summer?

Missed you guys, but I'm back 🙂 Time for things to get exciting... Good luck to everyone!

Judging from last cycle's waitlist thread, it's a trickle starting sometimes in June.

I checked out 2005's thread, too, and people started getting in on May 16, whereas in 2006 it was June 2. People were also initially notified via email in '06 (instead of with a phone call).

When I inquired with the Pitt ADCOM about numbers, etc., they said that last year only 20 were accepted off of the waitlist (whether this means 20 matriculated or 20 were given offers, I'm not sure), whereas in years past there was more significant movement. I'm hoping for a correlation between lots of movement and odd-numbered years.

Good Luck everyone! :luck:

It would be nice....here's hoping for a lucky break, and hopefully before June 5th (new application cycle)! >)

have any of you asked about standing? I wrote paula today, and have feared her response ever since.

(asking about standing was a side-side side note, whereas this is merely a side-note)

i just withdrew my acceptance, so hopefully one of you guys gets in

good luck

Re: Standing.

Unless someone has heard otherwise, they don't disclose this information. I'm in Scaife all the time (I work with a research group up on 6), and I ran into the secretary a few weeks ago. She told me that they do not disclose standings, so we're all in limbo.

Well as long as you're there you might as well put in a good word for me 😉. Would you happen to know whether Pitt prefers additional letters (LOI, updates) via email or snail mail? I noticed they include the admissions email address on all communication, which makes me think they use it...but I didn't get any kind of confirmation when I sent my first update letter this way (not that I was expecting it, but a little note saying "we've added it to your file" would have been nice).

Hey There:

I've ended up almost becoming penpals with Paula since I'm a Re-App now on the WL. So as for sending stuff, I can tell you that I'm currently traveling and studying at a foreign medschool in South America, and I send Paula a journal/update/diary thingy every couple of weeks replete with pictures I've taken in hospitals and small town clinics. That's on top of the LOI I sent her and the AdCom the day after I was WLed. 👍

As for standing ... that aforementioned secretary is right. Paula once taunted me in an email that she could tell me my approximate rank, but that she'd have to kill me right afterward. So, there ya go! 😛 Every school has a special charter written by their faculty regarding admissions office policies, so each school is unique. For example, Univ of South FL's Rel Larkin will tell you your rank over the phone and if/when your chances of hearing news is good; swell guy he is 😀 . Vermont will also tell you the approximate third of the WL you're on.

We just won't know til the May 15th lady starts singin' 😍 . What Paula has admitted lately (as in this week) is that not a lot of people have been withdrawing; in other words, many people have been taking up their offers of admission directly. :scared: However, she said May 15th often has a funny way of changing that kind of thing overnight  , as many Pitt acceptees also get into fancy-schmancy-name schools come May 15th. But, that's also not a MUST ... as in last year, as someone mentioned already, they kind of overaccepted at first, and the WL barely budged. Here's to WL movement ... HERE, HERE!

CMON GUYS! :hardy: One week and the AAMC musical chairs game begins!

BRING IT! :meanie:

- ALGO. 😎

i just withdrew my acceptance, so hopefully one of you guys gets in

good luck

Just withdrew as well (so excrutiating!) Does anyone know if we need to send a fax, or is an e-mail enough?

I have never called the office of admissions at Pitt to ask about the waitlist. Is it a good idea to call them up next week?

Depends on what you're asking.

"To whom should I address update letters for my file?" = Okay to call.

"When does Pitt start accepting people off of the waitlist?" = Okay to call (although they are probably inundated with this request).

"Where do I stand on the waitlist?" = Not okay to call, as they don't release this information.

 OH, HOW I LOVES THE CALENDER TOO-DEE ...

:hardy: MAY 15th, people! YEYA!

:luck: Just spreadin the Irish cheer ... I know; it's 1am and I'm celebrating the WL opening like it's a cruise-ship's maiden convocation ...

LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did we have to return anything to Pitt to accept our spot on the waitlist? I didn't do anything after receiving the letter. I just got another waitlist, and they want me to either accept or withdraw the waitlist spot, so I got a little paranoid about Pitt...

Lol...I've never heard of that one before. Usually you just have to accept your position OFF the waitlist (i.e. acceptance). It's weird that they're asking you to accept waitlist status, seeing as though you did apply to the school and all....but what do I know >).

i dont think so, but related question did everyone hear submit their financial aid documents to pitt? i just noticed that they sent the email asking to send them.

do you think that would affect any acceptance desicions? i would imagine they would be separate

I went ahead and submitted financial aid stuff so that it would be ready to go if I got off the WL. I don't think it has any factor in whether you get in or not though.

Is this an email that you just got? What all do they require beyond the FAFSA?

i got an email from paula davis back in feb or march re: financial aid (something to the tune of: "as you wait out the wait list, you may want to get started on your financial aid documents just in case.") did you get that email?

Oh, OK. I thought there had been a new one. Thanks for the clarification and good luck to all that are waiting. :luck:

For those of us who are indeed patiently waiting ...

Paula just wrote me back and said:

"We're still processing the Wait List, but the waters are finally receding, and the numbers (of matriculants) are going down. I'll keep in touch!"

So, new spots are starting to open up ... I know that doesn't say how many or anything, but ... at least it does mean we should start hearing stuff sometime soon, people. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YAZ!

Interesting that she says "I'll keep in touch"...I would have expected that to say "check back later." With all the applicants they get, it's nice to see that she's so personable.

is this waitlist ranked, now that may 15th passed, will they tell us our rank?

Thats good news, yet I'm still deeply worried about something. If there were never any post-interview rejections, that means that there might be ~ 1000 people on the waitlist. THat doesn't ease my thoughts, especially since my student interviewer was terrible (faculty was cake-wake).

I've heard that about 10% of those on the wait-list are admitted (per my faculty interviewer two weeks ago). Yee-hah.

Yes, she is very personable! But, I'm also a Re-App, so I've been writing her for a while now; thus, she kinda knows me and my story way more personally than most ppl. 😉 Makes sense!

I spoke to her again via email this afternoon btw, and she clarified that Pitt, like any other school, over accepts the first time around. THAT initial number of accepts has gone down from all the people withdrawing to go "St. Elsewhere" haha. (I agree with whomever said that People who withdraw from Pitt are their favorites!!! Mine too!!!) :hardy:

She also mentioned that the number of matriculants is reaching its normal May 15th-20th level, and so, she will be able to know quite soon how well things will fair for the WL. 👍 Last year was an anomaly by the way if some of you didn't know. A lot more people took their acceptances the first time around than they ever expected, so the WL got screwed royally. 😡

Seems like this year, that won't be the case ... fingers crossed!!!! :luck:

HERE'S FOR PEOPLE WHO WITHDRAW FROM PITT!!! CHEERS TO YOU PITT-WITHDRAWEE MAN ... THIS BUD'S FOR YOU!

Alright, well thanks for the info; make sure you keep us up-to-date with your inside connection >).

woah ... I don't think I'd call it an inside connection. We just correspond regularly and I've written her enough that she knows me well now.

I'm in the same chair as the rest of you, but I do talk to her often is all. 😛

It's not like I just proposed to the AdCom Chair's daughter 😍 or something. sheesh

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Your doin' a swell job appeasin' my fears my man. Keep it up--your hope for all of us with your "inside" information!

In case anyone is wondering: accepted from wait-list yesterday, will likely withdraw. Good luck to all of you still waiting.

holly crap...i can't believe it...does this mean that the number of students holding seats has already dropped below the required seat number for the fall>???!!!

Come on baby...daddy needs a new pair of shoes.

Please god, let this be it.

So now the neuroses set in, and we spend all our waking hours by the telephone. Answering even telemarketers within a millisecond of the start of the first ring. Yee-hah.

You said you emailed paula... is there an address I should use other than the generic admissions email address? I wrote like a week ago and still haven't heard back 🙁-- hope it's not on purpose!
