Well, it is the end of June, and I still haven't been selected off the waitlist.(No appectances, 1 waitlist). Should I go ahead and call the Dean of Admissions at my waitlist school and ask for reapplication advice? I have already sent in 2 LOIs, but no word yet. 🙁 Plus, 2005 app cycle has started, and I want to turn things in early.

It depends on the school, i'd guess. it seems like some schools are receptive to that stuff while others might not be. what school is it? some people might be able to give you specific advice in that case. good luck.

you are a pike, rumos say we might have one this fall in Madison

really? i hadn't heard. that's pretty cool. i just finished at northwestern and we actually just started our chapter 3 years ago.

anyway, back to this thread...

The school is UTMB - Galveston. Texas schools usually don't have great waitlist movement, but most of the other Texas deans were nice enough to give me some advice. I just figured the advice from the UTMB dean would be the best since I actually was waitlisted there and was deemed me to be somewhat of a suitable applicant. However, I don't want the UTMB dean getting the impression that I am throwing in the towel and trying again.

Maybe he won't see it that way. Maybe he'll see that you are truly dedicated to becoming a doctor.

Also, the fact that you called to see what's going on and have submitted LOIs also says a lot.

you don't have to make it seem like you're throwing in the towel. you can call under the premise of "i'm concerned about time and making plans" but you can focus the call on your interest in the school. i think, if anything, the dean will pick up on your enthusiasm. from my experience, some deans will make a note of your interest in your application when you call. who knows how much that impacts the admissions decision, but it at least lets you know that they know you're interested.
