Now that I've been waitlisted, do I just sit here an wait? I've been accepted to another school and submitted my deposit, should I start looking for housing? Can anyone who has been on a waitlist, pulled off and accepted please give me advice for housing and financial aid? I will have to move from the west coast to east coast if that info makes a difference. Thanks

So you have one definite acceptance, and one possibility..... and you're questioning it? You already submitted your deposit to the school that accepted you- if it wasn't what you wanted, why send the deposit? I'm not sure I understand why there's even a question here.

I think the issue is that the school that offered acceptance wasn't the first choice; the waitlisted school is probably the first choice (or higher up on the list).

That was my interpretation of aleviya's post also.

To aleviya, waitlists are generally sketchy for most schools, some more than others. If I was in a similar position where I was waitlisted by my top school but accepted to another, I would assume that I wouldn't get off the wait-list. So, I would accept the other school's offer and plan on attending there.

The last thing anyone (not you in this case) should do is to not submit the deposit and hope that he/she will get off the wait-list. That could be disastrous if he/she doesn't get off the wait-list and the other school pulls the offer leaving the student with no place to go!🙂

Sorry for being unclear. I was a little overwhelmed at the time and thought everyone would magically understand what I was talking about. Thanks for all the suggestions. Have those of you who accepted your second choice already gone forward with housing and financial aid stuff as well? If you have, any tips on arranging financial aid? Thanks again for all the help

Definitely proceed as though you were 95% committed to the 2nd choice. I wouldn't say waste money if it's long distance to go and look for housing, but definitely look online, call the school for housing options and let your fingers do the walking for right now.

Re Financial aid. Get those apps in ASAP. Most schools have priority deadlines for assigning financial aid. You want to be the first to find out, not the last. Apply for aid to the other school as well. As much as they'll let you fill out without having actually been accepted there.

Find out what, if any, immunizations you need, paperwork they require etc.

Duplication sucks, but not meeting deadlines and having to do it in a rush is worse.
