I understand that I'm in a position that a lot of people are envious of, but I am honestly surprised to hear this. I did well on my MCAT and have solid numbers.....both my interviewers actually told me that i had impressed them and they enjoyed the discussion. my extracurrics are fine...i honestly don't know how to improve my application......oh well, it's disappointing and this year will be a long one, but i suppose everything will work out for the best. any other people out there just playing the waiting game now???

Hey it depends on where you're waitlisted at. Some schools eventually pull off a lot of people from the waitlists, some don't.

I'm in the whole waiting game too. I applied to 22 schools, and 12 schools still haven't made the decision of whether to reject me or give me an interview (They don't even say things like "on hold for interview", just plain "under review)

It's soooo much waiting!

im in the same boat-- waitlisted at all the schools ive interviewed at: Umich, upstate, and buffalo.... which makes me start to think that im just a really bad interviewee. i felt they all went very well, and even had one interviewer tell me that it was a very strong conversation. i too have no idea what is going wrong, with our numbers and applications, theres really nothing else we can do but wait

Hasn't anyone told you guys the crapshoot theory of medical school admissions?

Medicated is talking about USF.

I was waitlisted there too today.

Larking tells you if your are in the "based on last years waitlist you will be accepted" side of the list or the "waitlisted and probably not going to get in based on last year"

I am in the later catagory. Bummer. Next week he is going to tell me why i didnt get in. I half dont want to hear it beacuse i will probably just get depressed, not because i care about getting into the school, but just beacuse they dont like me. 🙁

Provided that you get into a school you like, it better to not know why other schools dumped you, no good can come of it.

But Med.....USF is a GPA *****...Tulane is an MCAT *****.....youll get into tulane with your #s and personality.

'xcuse for my ignorance, USF = University of Southern Florida?

And Larking is the dean of admission?

nearly
univerity of south florida
larking is dean of admissions....the nicest in the bussiness...and i can say that after getting the shaft.

USF is a GPA *****

i disagree; my husband is on the top half of that list and got the "very little doubt that an offer will be made by April or May" message. and his gpa is not stellar. he withdrew from 3 semesters during undergrad, graduated with 3.1ish, took a year off, postbacc 3.8ish (at community college and back at the university). cumulative around 3.4 with bcpm around 3.6. my best guess is that the adcom sees that he's reformed and motivated now. it seems that they are looking at his whole application, because he has a respectable mcat and interesting post-graduation story.

USF...University of South Florida (in Tampa)😎

Congrats

but now i have to yell at you. Why do people insist on using one anecdotal situation to argue general claims?

I was just going on the observation that most schools with GPAs as hig as USFs have MCATs well above USF. And most schools with MCATs of USF have GPAs well below them.

USF. 3.7 29.4 Tulane 3.55 31.5

i think they are both making it clear what they like.

But anyway, that doesnt diminish your man accomplishment. so still, congrats for you guys.

ok, ok, hightrump - you're right. i just think it's always possible to defy whatever trends a school sets if the rest of your application is strong enough (and you don't totally blow it on that one aspect), and i think usf is one of those schools that actually cares what the applicant is like.

I know it sucks to get waitlisted, but I have some news that may cheer you up. Last application cycle I was also waitlisted at USF. I was told by Mr. Larkin, who is an incredibly nice and honest guy, that based on last year's movement, he did not think that I would be getting the call. Well, I did get the call, because the waitlist moved more than expected. It was so unexpected to get in, because I had pretty much written them off. That just goes to show you that anything can happen. Good luck!!

cocoabutter, do you know whether the waitlist moves all year or not until april/may?

hey cocoa....thanks for the info....kinda makes me feel a little better and i hope it still works out. how do you like wake forest??? my brother is an undergrad there and loves it....definitely one of my top choices for medical school.

futuredrswife......i agree that they evaluate the whole application, but my whole point was that i'm not exactly sure where i fell short. i don't feel that my only strong point is MCAT or whatever, but i am well-rounded and thought they were looking for exactly what i had to offer. and about USF...yes, even after being waitlisted....i thought Larkin was a class-act....every school needs someone like him in their dept.

I am pretty sure that the waitlist moves a little until May 15, and then it moves steadily after that. As for Wake Forest, I love it. I am actually deep in the middle of finals week and should be studying, but instead I am on SDN.
