Where are my fellow alternates out there? I hate getting waitlisted at my top choice school 🙁 Any advice from current medical students as to the best way to get off of a waitlist? Also, does anyone have the stats to DO schools and their alternate waitlist?...I am so depressed, don;t know what to do.....

What school waitlisted you? Did you think your interview went badly? I have my first next thursday at KCOM and I am really nervous.

Keep active with what you're doing and periodically send updated grades and activities. Usually, the adcoms could not come to a decision on your application. If you send a "letter of interest" or a "letter of intent" letter, it may influence the adcoms to accept you. Best of luck.

ok this might be a dumb question but, letter of interest is just a letter stating that you're still interested in attending the school but is NOT a letter of intent correct?

That's not a dumb question. You are right, they are not the same thing though depending on the person, it may be considered the same thing. Letter of interest is sometimes used to bring a long completed application to the forefront for another review. In your case, since you have already interviewed, a letter of intent may be the best option. Usually, the letter of intent shows that you are highly interested in the school and if admitted, you will attend. This is by no means a binding contract, but if this is not your top choice, I would hold off in sending it. Best of luck.

i got waitlisted for nova and "alternate-listed" for umdnj if that makes you feel better 😎

just think of it this way... waitlisted is better than flat out rejection righh?

I don't know the stats for the number of individuals on the waitlist and how many are accepted from that, but from reading posts from previous years, it indicates that NSU does not rank their waitlisted students. However, it also says that there is a "high alternate list" composed of around 10 people who would have gotten in normally, but they applied late. Previous waitlisters who have been accepted urge other waitlisters to be vigilant and to send in update letters, updated transcripts, and items of that sort. Best of luck!

If you don't mind, what do you think was the reason for it? poor grades/mcat/bad day at interview...or you were suprised by the waitlist?

i've been trying to find out how nova does their waitlist thing but nooo.. didn't hear of anything. i dont' think UMDNJ is for me.. the people were nice and all but i thought the campus was too small. i really liked nova especially after i visited it. as for my first choice, im not sure yet because im waiting to see where my bf gets in.. but yah.. an acceptance would still be nice 😀 goodluck to you too!!

i'm actually surprised i didn't get rejected from nova. i went into the interview with 2 hours of sleep and a migraine. sooo many things went wrong!!! i just couldn't concentrate and had the most ridiculous answers to the simplest questions :meanie:

I feel that. I guess I feel a little better knowing someone else is in the same boat. Yeah I feel that my interview went poorly as well. I had not so great answers to really hardcore questions. But anyways, I guess its a wait and see. Does anybody know ANYTHING about nova's waitlist (stats, etc.)? Also, if there is a nova current student, are there alot that got in through the waitlist in your class? Thanks in advance....

were you guys suprised by what they had asked you? or was the interview atmosphere just not friendly?

I've talked to a good number of people from my school who were on the alternate list before getting in. They all have some things in common. For instance, they all sent in letters of intent, additional LORs, new transcripts, lists of new ECs and awards and pretty much pestered the heck out of the admissions office. The one negative that they all had in common was a lower than average MCAT score. Most of them had really good GPAs and lots of leadership rolls in clubs and tons of volunteering, etc...

DO schools are scores ******, just like any other school. Yes, they want the well-rounded individual, but when two well-rounded individuals are being looked at, they'll typically choose the one with higher scores.

I don't know what your situation is, but I'd make sure that the receptionist at the school you want to attend knows you by the sound of your voice before next year. Let them know how badly you want it. It doesn't always work, but it won't hurt you.
