Hi folks, I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out here. I'm currently still on waitlists and about to finish up AMCAS '03. I'm contemplating whether or not to submit it now b/c:

1) Reapplicants as needing "significant" improvements in their application.

My additions to my application are a 2 point improvement in the MCAT (1 point each on verbal and physical), 1 year EC of clinical HIV/AIDS research, and completely new PS. My MCAT's were already solid. Does this qualify as significant?

If not, then I will have to apply for AMCAS '04, which means I'll have an extra year to improve my application. In this case...

2) Should I take undergrad upper-div sci classes through an extension program or pursue a master's or continue working for that year given these stats f/ UC: BCPA 3.42, AO 3.66, cum 3.48 (upward trend)?

3) If I am to submit now, how many schools do I designate? I've heard only 1 so I'll save money in case I do get accepted. However, say come end of August, and I don't end up getting in, designating more schools then will result in a late application, right? What is everyone else doing about this matter???

Thanks in advance,

Joe Joe

You could submit one school now so it all gets processed, and then add more in mid-July....I don't htink that would really make you a late applicant. It sounds like you have improved your application enough to reapply---but if your MCAT scores were already solid, why do you think you didn't get in? Did you fix that? Also, make sure you apply to a wide range of schools 😀

thanxs foxy for the reply...

my application was completed very late last year b/c of a prof taking forever to turn in his LOR. it didn't become complete until nov-dec and i got interviews in feb-march.

you sound like a competitive applicant to me! if you got interviews, then schools must have thought you looked good too. did you apply to a wide range of schools this year? and how are your interviewing skills? i would go with the single school designation until late july/early august, then add more if necessary. good luck with your waitlist(s)!

hi leila...

i did apply to a range of schools, although i'll definitely broaden that range this year. i think what killed my application at most places was that it was completed so late. i got several warnings f/ schools that they still needed that last LOR. anyhow, i think my interviewing skills are solid...went through plenty to get certain EC positions as an ugrad. but, i just didn't "click" with a few interviewers. not much i can about that right?
