Hi guys 🙂

I'm wondering about classes that my UG has waived for me that are prereqs. For example, my writing classes were all waived because I tested out of them, as well as college algebra and trigonometry. If a school requires these will my test out count?

Well your math classes that you tested out of will be no problem b/c pharmacy colleges usually require calculus (a diff monster). However, the writing does matter, I would get that taken cared of.

Fix it? How?

Anyone else? I always like a few opinions.

yeah i had a huge problem with this. university credit through exemptions and ap credit really messed up my last year and half of undergrad. as always, it depends on the schools you're applying to to what counts and what doesn't count. a lot of schools accept ap/ib credit but less so with the science ap/ib credit. as far as university exemptions go no pharmacy schools really like to see that as i found out. most likely you're going to have to take comp I and comp II even if you've been exempted from these by your undergrad university. check each pharm schools website or email them for more info. most schools require comp I and II, some just I, some just II, some both along with a technical writing course or advanced comp.

I really wouldn't think those classes wouldn't be that big of a deal. Now a Calculus or gen chem credit would be a different situation. I have a BS, took only 1 english class in college, had credit for the rest, and didn't take any history at all in college due to ap credits. They are going to see how you write in your ps, your pcat scores (maybe, 3's are pretty popular, lol), and possibly a writing sample during your interview. Your best game plan is to talk to the places you are wanting to apply to, they are pretty friendly about these types of questions. If you have to take a class for your #1 school, it wouldn't be too hard to squeeze it in.

Good luck!

If the waived classes are pharmacy pre-reqs, chances are you are going to have to take them in college. How else would they calculate your GPA in science or math during admission if they were waived? If the class is not a pre-req, then I wouldn't worry about it (like history or even foreign language for example). The best thing to do is contact the school(s) you are interested in applying and they will be able to tell you.

Most of the time, if you tested out of a pre-req course, then you would have to take the next level class from the same department in order to apply. The best way is to call the pharmacy school(s) you are considering and asking them what they would prefer. Policy may differ from school to school.
