If Prometric centers stay closed through summer and fall - Do you think they will waive the DAT and/or some other aspects of the application (shadowing/research/volunteering) since we can't do this during social distancing?

Only applicants able to apply would be people who took the DAT before all the closings and are happy with their scores. And people who either need to take it for the firsts time or retake it will get the short end of the stick.

As it is, the AADSAS closes on February 3rd 2021. It is strictly the opinion of this pre-dent that it seems more likely that dental schools will just stretch out their application reviews and acceptances over a longer time than outright waive the DAT. Without the DAT as an equalizer, it would be impossible to fairly compare applicants.

With regards to shadowing hours, I have been in touch with my school's advising department about this. If I get any new information, I will share that in a separate post.

Don’t count on them waiving the DAT requirement. Thousands of people would be up in arms if that was an option. The hygiene classes of 2020 are protesting to remove their clinical exam altogether due to the circumstances. However, power comes in numbers and thousands of hygienists are rallying against this. Its not just a rite of passage to determine how much of a workload you can handle and retain, but it lowers the standards that dental school applicants are known to have. Study in the meantime and keep the material fresh.

Lmao. You wish they would remove the DAT. Ain’t no way they gonna scrap it or have you take it at home. Keep dreaming.

my advice keep studying so when it eventually reopens it you are ready to register and take it ASAP.

And yes, ppl who are ready to submit apps will be at a better advantage than those that havent. They will have first dibs to scholarships before the later applicants

i think they would be a little more understanding with this cycle, I took the DAT and didn't do as well as I wanted to. Was planning on retaking it, but who knows what will happen.

Is there a spot on the ADEA AADSAS Application to indicate that you're retaking it so they dont think you're applying solely with your first attempt score?

yes I believe so

When submitting the application for the DAT, it has the option for "result recipients" (the list of the schools etc) that you would like included..
I've heard from some that you should not put ANY down for the first time of taking your DAT to see how you score, THEN send it out to the ones you would like.

I've heard from others that you should send it to everyone and select all schools as you go in to take the DAT.

Any thoughts or advice on this?

I've never heard anyone suggesting to not put a school down when applying for the DAT.... but the thing is that to send it out to schools later on, you'll have to pay a fee per school which is just an extra and unnecessary cost. It doesn't matter if you don't put schools down, score poorly, retake, and then send out your new scores because schools will see all your attempts regardless (they'll see your 1st attempt when you send your 2nd attempt in)....
