So I'm in a tight spot - I was planning on only applying to two schools due to location issues but since Hurricane Katrina rolled through, I've now decided to apply widely and find myself without enough money to cover the expenses. I can do the primary fees, but does anyone have any experience with asking schools to waive secondary fees?

Thanks!

I think you have to get a AMCAS waiver and then some schools will also waiver the secondary fee. And some schools don't even accept the AMCAS waiver.

Yep, it's called the Fee Assistance Program, on the aamc website. You just have to send yours and parents' tax info and they either grant or deny it. Then, if you get it, just forward it to schools and most waive the secondary fee.

Ya know a friend of mine did not apply for the FAP but did send a letter along with her secondary stating/explaining that she was in a major financial crunch. I think a lot of the schools ended up accepting her secondary without the fee. You could definitely give it a try. Good Luck! 🙂
