Wake Forest Class of 2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys and gals,

I just found an acceptance letter under a pile of junk mail at my house dated April 29. I was on the waitlist and did not expect to hear until after May 15th but I guess Wake decided to give an early gift. Anyways, I am going to send in the deposit tomorrow since the letter stated a two week deadline. By the way, I am also from NorCal so it will be a far move to North Carolina.

AAAAHHH!!!! Hello fellow Californian! I'm glad to hear you are going to Wake! Congrats! Where in California are you from?

I go to school in Davis but I grew up in a small town in between Sac and Chico. I actually am originally from Texas though.

Wow, they didn't call you?

I'm from Chico. I'm going to go ahead and guess Marysville or Yuba City. My dad is from Marysville. If either city is true then I feel sorry for you 🙁.

Very cool! Well I look forward to meeting you in July.

Yeah, I am from YC and it is not the greatest place. I actually have been in Chico more times in the last 4 years but then again my parents moved out once all my siblings graduated high school. YC is not the most desirable place to live but it is still better then Marysville.

I don't know what happened to Marysville, it sounds like it was a pretty nice place when my Father was being raised there. Maybe it has a lot to do with the levies that protect the city from flooding, I think they have hindered growth.

Hey medikit, are you still calling? Someone told me to call once every week.

You should call Wake and see where you are in the waitlist. They will tell you something general like top third, middle, bottom third. At least you can get a sense of where you stand.

They will? I asked a woman on the phone today, and she said they had in no way ranked applicants. Maybe it depends on who you speak to.

Rumor has it that Ms. Irene Tise will answer such a question based on your scores. Not sure if this is reliable or not. Someone please call and ask to Ms. Tise. Let us know how it goes.

I am really excited to meet all of you in...damn

A LITTLE OVER TWO MONTHS!!!

Time is really slipping by for us.

I met with Irene a couple of weeks ago. She was very upfront with me about my chances. Each applicant receives a numerical value based on the interviews and admissions committee. She estimated my rank on the waitlist based on my number. Unfortunately I am around 100 or so. Don't think it'll work out for me, but good luck to everyone else.

I think 100 is good, In 2003 I think they accepted about 150 people off of the waitlist. Obviously that's the kind of thing that changes year to year, but don't count yourself out yet.

I got the number by subtracting the number of people they accepted from the incoming class, the answer was bigger than 150 but I figured there were some people that withdrew after being accepted before they finished interviewing.

Is she just guesstimating based on your number or does she actually have an accurate idea of where you stand? Also, I'm on the west coast and visiting with Ms. Tise is impractical. Do you think I can call her instead?

Question...

So I have been a slacker and will probably pull a C in one of my classes this semester (its definately an elective I don't need to graduate) and maybe another C but probably not (again, see "blow off elective")

Do you think the school will make a big deal of this if I get a couple of Cs?

It does say that my acceptance is "contingent on my continued satisfactory academic performance" but this phrase is delightfully vague...

Thoughts on this?

I just spoke to Ms. Tise about satisfactory academic performance. For science classes and classes in your major, a "C" is not acceptable (except maybe in extenuating circumstances). A "C" in a blow off elective is not a big deal, but I wouldn't risk getting two C's. You will be required to send in your final transcript and they will subjectively determine if your academic performance was acceptable. If you got two or more C's or you got one in a science or in your major, they will want a good explanation (they don't want to hear that you had senioritis). If you don't have a good explanation, they may recind your acceptance on the basis that you lack the maturity to handle med school.

So, don't sweat that one "C" and do well on your finals and everything should be ok.

Well, I sent off the rest of my withdrawal letters today...IT'S NOW OFFICIAL!!

Anybody big basketball fans? I am really excited to see the madness that is ACC basketball.

When Wake wins a big game, the undergrads toilet paper the academic quad. I hope to finance med school by selling rolls of toilet paper on campus for $5 per roll the day after the big games. When you really gotta go, $5 is worth it.

I'm not a huge fan, but I'm still a little bummed about the loss to WVU.

Wake's team is gonna be bad next year with the loss of the seniors, cp, and big e, so i wouldn't get too excited about wake's team.

yep, i'm at wake undergrad...

cp is NOT too popular on campus right now

best of luck to all you med school folks! i'm sure you'll have a great time at wake.

🙁 My arm is sore today from all the poking and prodding I had to endure for the physical Wake requires. A TB test and blood sample. Ouch!

get ready for another TB test when you get here. They made us get 2 to make sure we were truly TB free.

Would you suggest I go ahead and get the second TB shot before I go? Is it free at Wake? I think the physical my school gives only comes with one free TB shot, not two, so I may have to pay for that second one. What's your suggestion?

Why is it that so few people are on that roommate list? There's like 8 total. I hope after May 15, more people will join the list.

I hope so too...

JOIN THE ROOMMATE DATABASE!!!

Also...

ADD YOUR NAME TO WAKE ON THE OFFICIAL MATRICULATION THREAD!

(erock and I are getting lonely)

Good luck waitlisters. :luck: We ought to see some movement next week.

I'm heading up to W-S on Monday to look at houses. Seems like orientation is right around the corner.

I would just wait and get it during orientation. I think it costs about $7, but don't kill me if this is wrong. Everybody has to go through employee health during orientation, so you might as well just get it when they look through your file, but it's really up to you.

hey i6 -> countdown until BOG (2 weeks)
i will then know if i'll be a wake forester.... 😉

i mean.... my dreams *could* be psychic....

I'm not so sure. If you get the BOG, I suspect you will end up at Carolina or Duke.

ummm. yeah. first i would prolly need an acceptance from one of them. 🙄

I know. I'm just sayin that one thing would probably lead to the other. If you actually receive the BOG, Carolina cannot justifiably continue to treat you like an out-of-state applicant.

Hey,

I just got a letter from Wake on Thursday offering me a spot! I'm really excited! I'll have to turn down my undergrad school, univ. of south carolina to attend. They gave me two weeks to make that decision! So it looks like wake for me. I'll be in need of some roommates (girls) and such as soon as I make a decision for sure. I'm originally from Charlotte. I look forward to meeting everyone!

Were you out-of-state at USC as an undergrad? Or did Wake give you a very nice financial aid package?

Just curious why you'd choose Wake and Winston over USC and Columbia.

i am under the impression that it wont change my status. at least for this app cycle. not that ill do it again.

I just wanted to let the people still on the waitlist know that there is one more spot out there, I declined my acceptance last week...good luck
