Has anyone interviewed there yet? What's the best way to get around from aiport/hotel/school? Please share your experiences. My interview is coming up and I haven't booked a hotel yet.

When is your interview?

When did wake start interviewing? I've been complete for a bit, but no word.

I am so nervous about this one!! The interview experience sounds so intense!

I just received Wake's interview packet in the mail. I definitely want to book a room in one of the hotels that provides shuttle service to campus, but...I wonder if those ones are all ok?!

I don't think anyone has interviewed at Wake yet this year, though...anyone else know the area?

AMCAS verified first week of July, Wake notified me last week via e-mail. I have no idea which hotel offers a shuttle to campus? My date is Oct 24th. So far, I just have the airplane tickets booked to arrive at Greensboro Airport. Can anyone suggest a hotel w/ shuttle services? Anyone else going on 24th? ARgh....

WEIRD...how did they send YOU an email and ME a mailed packet?! I would have preferred an email in some ways...anyway, you'll probably get one soon. They send them by regular mail. Here's the scoop:

The Hawthorne
336-777-3000
Single/Double-$59

Fairfield Inn and Suites
336-714-3000
Double-$65

Comfort Inn
336-721-0220
Double/King-$75

There are other hotels nearby, but these are the only ones that provide shuttle service to campus. There are a couple airports nearby, and I'm not sure yet which one is best to fly into.

I'm interviewing there on 10/3...I am so nervous; I'm way unprepared for the ethical questions, multiple rounds, etc.

Willthatsall, if it's been 3 weeks since you've been complete give them a call. I've heard they're not the best school about mailing stuff out. My interview there is on Oct 3, so I definitely need to figure the hotel stuff out soon. I'm guessing that any of the hotels that are within shuttle distance would be fine. I'll let you know where I end up booking since I really should get on that... 🙂

Good luck!

I am interviewing on Sept 28th. In two weeks I'll be flying down there!!!

They sent me a complete email on Aug 12. I'll probably wait a little longer before I call and ask if they forgot about me.

I'm from Winston-Salem if I can be of any help with arrangements...I think there are a couple of Wake undergrads around here too.

As for the hotels, make sure they are providing transportation to the medical school, not the undergrad. They aren't in the same area.

The Comfort Inn is less than 1/2 mile from the medical center, while the Hawthorne is slightly more than a mile.

If you're flying in to GSO, you might consider renting a car. Taxis are pretty scarce in Winston-Salem and you might get charged a bit. I checked online and you can get a car for less than $50 at GSO. Might make it easier getting around WS too.

Make sure you hit the medical center the night before to see where you need to be. The whole place is like a maze.

Right now, I'm living is CO, but I'll be back in W-S mid-October, so if you're interviewing then, let me know and I might be able to provide a little more help...ie a ride or whatever else you might need.

Good Luck

Hey everyone!! I am a first year at Wake this year. I've only been in school for six weeks but I love it already!!! I wanted to say congrats to everyone who has gotten and will receive an invite to interview. You are going to love it here! I see there's talk about which hotel is best to stay at. I personally stayed at the Hawthorne Inn. It's owned by the Medical Center and they have shuttles to and from the medical center. I don't think they have shuttles to the Greensboro airport though. One piece of advice I do have is when you make your room reservations at any hotel, ask if they have a medical school/Baptist Medical Center discount. I know the Hawthorne Inn does but others may as well. And that discount is pretty considerable. Anyway, you can shoot me a private message or an email if you all have any questions at all. Good luck!!

Can any of you Wake students tell us when you got your interviews? I've been complete for a while but I haven't been offered anything yet... Do they usually offer interviews right away? Do they send rejections right away? Wake's my #1 choice so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wake didn't offer an interview right away but I had my interview in mid-November. Now, they got back to me with their response really quickly. Some of my classmates were put on a waitlist for two weeks then accepted and others were on the waitlist for months and then accepted. So there's a wide range of ways that Wake will be talking to you. They aren't even starting interviews until 9/26 so you are totally fine if you haven't heard from them yet. Good luck! Again, if you have any questions, ask away.

I really have heard that within 3 weeks of being complete they should have an answer. I called them at that time and they told me. Go ahead and give them a call if it's been 3 weeks. Good luck 🙂

Thanks Jllander and MrBurns! I guess I'll hold off on contacting them for a while...so do they not have this cryptic "HOLD" thing going on?

Ya, I was complete the 12th of august and I have not heard anything...maybe a phone call is in order?

OH!! One thing I should have mentioned that may ease your fears: I called Wake when I heard nothing and asked if there was an update on the status of my application. They looked it up and said that I had been granted an interview (as if I should have known that already). I got the letter in the mail a week later. I don't know if they had forgotten to email or if I caught them right as they had made the decision or what. But definitely call...you may be pleasantly surprised. :-D

Same thing here. I'm gonna hold off on a call for a little while, probably 2 weeks.

FYI...I called today to check on my status and they told me I have an interview invite! They said they would be sending out emails eventually... I have to schedule mine now. They were very friendly on the phone as well 🙂

Did they say how long it takes for them to email? I don't really understand the idea of selecting people for interviews but then not getting back to them for an extended period.

Has anyone called and been told that they are on hold/rejected? Is there a status page for Wake, or are we just supposed to call them. Thanks!

Ya I wish they would send em out right away if they decided to. Maybe I should call also??? I don't want to seem to impatient either 🙁

I'm thinking it can't take that much longer. I just can't figure out what the hold up is. How hard is it to send an email...

I would call them if I were you...especially if its one of your top choices. The lady who answered the phone was very nice and did not seem bothered at all. It was a quick check and a nice phone call over all.

Ya I guess I'll just call tomorrow. If they say ok then I give them my name and aamc #. If they say no they won't even know who I am.

Unless they say, "Yeah sure we can check, what's your name and AAMC ID?" And then you tell them and they're like, "Hell no we aren't checking for you, and now we are docking application points for being impatient. Sucker!" I'm just saying, what if? On a serious note, how long do you have to schedule your interview after they tell you you are chosen for one?

Everyone just remember: Wake admissions is fielding tons of phone calls and emails and applications each day. They are working as hard as they can. I've seen the woman answering your phone calls. She is so nice on the phone but given how often she's on the phone, it's hard to imagine how she gets anything done. 😉 I don't know how Wake looks at apps, whether it's by how soon you got it in or if there's a special ranking system. But like I said before, interviews haven't even started yet. And if it's any consolation, Wake accepted all the way through to the last day of orientation. So there's always hope!! I am so excited for all you guys!! I am keeping my fingers crossed. :luck:

It definitely takes a special person to work the phones in admissions at a med school. Well, except for the ones that get rude and snap on you, they aren't very special.

Ya the ones at JHU are pretty awful.

Hey Guys, I was complete on the 19th of August (4 weeks ago) and after reading this thread couldn't stand waiting, so I broke down and called . . . no change. Thought I'd post this to possibly stem the tide of possible calls because of this thread. But yes, the lady on the phone was nice.

I did call this morning and the secretary said I was going to be invited and even scheduled me for an interview.

I was complete on 8/9

I interviewed there for residency . . .

GSO is the triad airport in Greensboro. It's a 20 - 25 minute drive for Wake. It's a small airport, easy to get around in, and it is very easy to travel from there to Wake--pretty much a straight shot on the interstate. There is a shuttle that goes from this airport to hotels in Winston-Salem.

Your other closest option is Charlotte airport which is only 1 hour away and probably cheaper to fly into, but you'll need to rent a car to drive yourself to Winston-Salem.

So I should have been more patient. I got an interview e-mail today. I'm excited, but it def makes me feel like a jerk for calling yesterday. Oh well.

Anyone else receive a redundant e-mail saying the following. I got this same email like a month ago.

Dear Applicant:

All materials necessary to complete your application have been received.

The Committee on Admissions will now evaluate your application for interview status. Interview is by invitation from September through March. Not all interviewable candidates can be invited. If you have not heard by April, you will receive notification of your status at that time.

I received this email....2 hours after they sent me an email inviting me for an interview. 🙂

Has anyone interviewing at Wake Forest tried flying into RDU airport in Durham and either taking a bus or renting a car to WFU? I'm coming from the west coast and noticed that the airfare to fly into GSO is about $460, while flying into RDU is only $237.

How exciting! Good luck! My interview isn't until November so I've got plenty of time to sit and worry. :luck:

Do they send you an email and an interview packet or do they only send the packet after you schedule your interview?

Did everyone who called to find out about their interview eventually get the email invite later?

Thanks and congrats on all the interviews!

I didn't ever get an e-mail; I called them, scheduled an interview, then a few days later received a packet in the mail.

I flew into RDU. I rented a car and it took a little over an hour to get to Winston-Salem. This is the way to go in my opinion because it is a lot cheaper to fly into RDU.

How'd the interview at Wake go?? I'm interviewing there this Friday and I'm really nervous/excited. Was it very stressful? Hope it went well.

It went okay...everyone was really friendly and helpful, particularly the med center guild (i.e. wives of doctors). The interviewers were nice too, they just wanted to get to know you basically. They only have your primary and secondary apps, so they don't know your scores, extracurrics, etc. at all (hence, you get some repetitive questions). But overall, the school was very nice. Great facilities and really nice people. Winston-Salem makes Durham look like New York, though. 🙂
