Hey anyone have their MSAR handy? Could you tell me what Wake's MCAT cutoff is for sending secondaries? Many thanks!😀

Im not sure if they have cutoffs, but there Median scores were 10 VR, 11 PS, 11BS and Q-WS.

The range was 6-15 Verbal; 6-15 PS, 4-14 BS, K-T WS

3.73-Overall GPA median; 3.69 Science GPA

wow, a 4 BS?
Yup, Going through the MSAR its amazing that most of the schools let in someone with 5 or less in a subject. Even schools like Mayo, UM, and Duke let in ppl with 5s.

Hmmmm interesting.... Someone told me they screened their secondaries so I was going to wait to send my AMCAS to them until after I retake my MCAT but if they are accepting people with 4's in BS then I dunno....

those people are going to be extraordinary cases. I got screened out of there with a 31 (11 vr, 10, 10) and a low GPA (3.1)

I'll tell you that I got over a 10 in every subject, got a secondary fast, got an interview fast, and got in fast.

Hope this helps and good :luck: !!

I would wait unless there is someway to let them know that you are going to be retaking.

Wake is very picky about who they give secondaries to, and unless you have something amazing on your application I dont think a 24 is gonna cut it.

Good luck on the retake

I know that on AMCAS you can show that your planning to take it in the future, but I dunno that would be enough. I'll probably wait to send it there until after. Thanks for the responses!

I have a feeling you would get pre-screened, even with the anticipated MCAT score. they get a lot of applications.

good luck on the retake!

Separate question but while I have you guys, what other schools screen their secondaries?

Not many... UNC, Kansas, a few cali schools I think

Iowa does for sure.

I got screened out with a 3.45 and a 32R(11/10/11). Also, it might not be all about numbers in the screening process. I don't think anyone has figured out any real trends about their screening.

As far as MCAT ranges go, some schools have BS-MD programs that require the student to take the MCAT but not to achieve any particular score. Those would still be reported for the MSAR, so that data may not be of any use.

Yeah wake forest definitely views the application holistically. From what I was told, they have certain areas where they rank you on a scale of 1-5, with one being the highest. They have a certain cutoff to receive a secondary and a certain cutoff to receive an interview. The ppl they accepts almost always average bw 1 and 2, with the average like a 1.8 or something.
Im not sure what the specific categories are, if anyone knows that would be helpful.

Also Wake is very concerned about fit. They want students who will fit in well and who are serious about their school.

Wake is a strange place as far as secondaries go. I got interviewed (on the waitlist [fingers crossed]) with a 3.18, 36, but I'm also an alum.

I totally Agree. I wouldn't have gotten my interview in feb if I hadn't contacted them monthly. really hit it off with 2/3 interviewers and every single student I met but all questioned me about if i could see myself there and about who i am as a person. There are pretty concerned about the "ruralness" of Winston-salem and really tried to play up the activities in the city.

As far as the secondary I'm a nontrad with lots of interesting EC aside from the normal shadowing, volunteer and such (check out my MD APPS for more if Your interested). So I'm sure that at least one of them struck a cord with the ADcoms.

As for me, I really stumbled with the third interviewer which is why I think I got only waitlisted. Still waiting to hear and hoping that the tragic UNC murder will scare a few accepted students away from NC (I know, I know too soon for jokes but I really want to go there)

Word to the Wise, the GPA and the MCAT just get your foot in the door, your EC's keep it open and your secondary+interview get you in.

My interviews there didn't go so great there...but tough to say since you have so little time with each interviewer (15 minutes). My stats are average, I lived in NC, but am a resident somewhere else...I interviewed last week of November, was accepted a week and a half later.

The whole process is a mystery sometimes.

Does anyone else have any input/knowledge on which places screen applicants by GPA and/or MCAT scores?

Thanks.

Every place is gonna reject people with stats that just dont hack it. I dont think the data is published so your best bet would be to just apply to those schools that fall within your range
