The Wake Forest University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (in Winston-Salem, NC) would like to welcome fourth year medical students currently enrolled in United States allopathic medical schools to rotate as an acting intern in our department. We have expanded our acting internship program to allow up to eight (8) students to rotate during each academic block. This year we are overhauling our Acting Internship program to maximize the educational benefit to our rotating students. Our top priorities during your rotation are to advance your orthopaedic knowledge base, initiate the transition from medical student to resident, and expose you to a wide variety of orthopaedic surgical conditions and clinical styles.
Wake Forest University is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The rotation will take place in the Wake Forest Baptist Health system, at the main campus level 1 pediatric and adult trauma center and orthopaedic outpatient clinics at CompRehab Plaza (conveniently located across the street from North Carolina Baptist Hospital).
Key features of the Wake Forest Orthopaedic Surgery acting internship rotation:
1. Busy operative experience with our fellowship trained academic orthopaedic faculty, many of whom are considered world-experts in their respective orthopaedic sub-specialties
2. Orthopaedic clinic and call experience to learn about the peri-operative, non-operative, and acute management of orthopaedic issues, with teaching and participation in Emergency Department procedures such as casting, splinting, joint injections, joint aspirations, revision amputations, etc.
3. Participation in departmental educational conferences, grand rounds, cadaveric and saw-bone operative surgical skills labs, and journal clubs
4. Newly designed didactic lectures designed specifically for fourth-year medical students
5. Assignment of a senior resident mentor to help guide you through your time at Wake Forest
6. Time to take advantage of the many activities Winston-Salem, NC offers to help you decide if you can picture yourself working and living in our city as a prospective future resident.

Applications for an acting internship rotation in the Wake Forest University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery are accepted via VSAS (Visiting Student Application System).
Applications will be accepted beginning March 1, 2012. Applications must be submitted 60 days prior to requested rotation, and per university policy, all visiting students must rotate on Wake Forest Medical School's block dates.
