Wake Forest Post Bac

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, congratulations you guys who got interviews. This is actually my first post on the website. I registered a little while ago, and hadn't checked this thread until last night because of work/computer problems. I'm going to be honest, I didn't sleep well at all. I've yet to receive an email and worried that they gave out all of the invitations. I'm curious if the adcomm is still going through the applications on the basis of when they were submitted. I actually submitted very recently and am still unsure whether they received it. I guess no questions for now...I just wanted to communicate with others going through this process. Most of the time I feel like I'm the only one going through all this while others I know continue to collect awesome paychecks and progress with their futures. Sorry, I don't want to sound depressing like Eeyore. It's a beautiful day outside, and who knows what the future will hold. After reading all of the posts last night, I just wanted to congratulate everyone on the interviews; I know all of you deserve it. And to the others (like myself), good luck with the future. I definitely feel this process is torture. After all of this effort and stress, hopefully something will work out for us. Oh, and sorry for the long post.

I'm not sure if submission order is a factor. I submitted in late 2009 and still haven't heard from them.

Yeah, I submitted early February and I already received word.

The website says that interviews will be handed out by April 1st. I really still feel that they have given out a "first wave" of interviews, trying to gauge who is still interested and who has other plans, and then once some people have solidified, they will move on to the next wave until they have 30 candidates. It wouldn't make sense to offer only 30 interviews, reject everyone else, then by some random luck have 8 people who decided not to go through with the interview and only have 22 people to interview for 10 slots. For everyone's sake who hasn't heard, I really think (and hope!!) that's the case.

I say if you hear nothing by the 1st, then count yourself out. But till then, no news CAN be good news. Or, just no news (sorry if I couldn't cheer you up). :luck:

Thanks for the encouraging words.

Does anyone know the avg. Non loan fin aid theat post bacc students get for the program and med school?

I was actually looking on their website for that last night. So for the post bac it seems as if you get some sort of financial aid/scholarship depending on need. As for med school it was a little vague. There are merit scholarships available and then the school also gives you (loans you) money to pay for school

Hello everyone,

I also received an invitation to interview for the post- bacc program at Wake Forest. I am excited and nervous at the same time. Do any of you know what to expect as far as how the interview will be conducted. If you have any details please share.

Thank you

i cant remember what was in the wake forest 2ndary.. is there a way we can access that? or did we even receive the actual school 2ndary? was it just the pbp 2ndary?

This is the med school secondary:
*In which service activity that you listed on the AMCAS application do you feel made the most impact on someone else? Briefly elaborate (3-5 sentences).

*Which service activity had the most impact on you? Briefly elaborate (3-5 sentences).

*Personal Comments (Complete if you have additional comments or something specific to say to the school):

We received a post-bac-specific secondary.
*On a separate sheet, briefly summarize your career goals and how participating in the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program will help in attaining them. Be sure to include experiences you have had which helped you make your decision. (Please limit your response to one typewritten page.)

Did you save a copy of your answer?

thanx... i dont remember what i said on the 2ndary.i dont remember the 2ndary at all..i do have a copy of the pbp 2ndary...

Did you apply to the medical school first? As post-bac applicants we were only given the post-bac question.

Does anyone know how this process works? Do you think they have already contacted our references, or do you think they have yet to do this??

I REALLY want to quit my job (boss is one of my references), but not before they get their info from him. I don't want him seeking vengeance (sp?).

i didnt know they contacted references... as in our LOR writers?

They asked for phone numbers, so I took it to mean that they might want to ask some of their own questions...

i see.. well it seems our program/thread veterans are MIA, maybe its getting to the meat of the semester for them.. i also wanted to know do they still only have your personal statement at the interview..and no #s?

Scheduled to interview on April 12th. I am so worried because I will be outside the country then. I don't know what to do. I've really been looking forward to this opportunity. Any suggestions?

I think the only thing you can do is call and see whether they would consider interviewing you either before or after the regular interview date. How long will you be gone?

I am leaving for a medical missions trip and will be away for a month. I will send Ms. Dockery an email and hear what she says. Thanks.

Congratulations! I would def suggest making sure you speak to her personally, no answering machines, and let her know of the situation.

On another note, does anybody know whether or not you're required to retake the MCAT if you're among the chosen 10 to matriculate? ..Is there a cut-off score? 😕

As for the cut-off score, I would imagine it's the same as the eligibility requirement score of 21.

All questions have been answered, all small talk has been made...those who are out of the running are gone, those who have heard nothing (anyone out there?) are still waiting for word, and those who are interviewing are just waiting to get it over with. There'll be more chatter come mid April - post decision.

quiet around these parts..

You're not kidding. I usually troll the message boards at least once a day to help out with questions if I can but there hasn't been anything.

I have a question though for the veterans, if there's any of them here.
..Do they send out just 30 invites, since I know somebody that got an invite but also got accepted to a 4yr MD program, or do they add more interviewees until they have 30?

Reading posts from the earlier years, post-bac alums have said that the program has interviewed anywhere from 22-26 applicants. I don't know if 30 is new, or if they did in fact send out 30 invites and was only able to secure 22-26 interviewees, or what. Some clarification would be nice...

I just rejected my interview invitation. Hopefully they will give my spot to someone else. Good luck to all applicants waiting!

About 22?! Pardon my excitement BUT if they accept just 10 then that brings it down to about a 1:2 chance of getting in! ..That's AWESOME! 😀

Yeah, so you're either a loser or you're not. :scared:

I have been placed on a "secondary interview pool status of “Hold”." This essentially means that I could be offered an interview in the event an applicant, who has been invited to interview, withdraws before April 2, 2010. If anyone has an invite that they will not be using, then please notify the school so that someone in my situation can receive an opportunity. Whoever is afforded the chance to interview, whether its me or not, will appreciate this gesture. Thank you.

P.S. The Admissions Committee selects 25-30 applicants annually to interview, but for me to be on a hold then that means they scheduled the 30 interviews

It's pretty quiet in these here parts 😛

..Seems we had a few interview-withdraws on the thread, did you get your invite Doc?

I know, huh? I don't know what to say. There was anticipation buidling up to receiving an interview invite, and now that's over. I thought the next wave would come before the interviews, but it hasn't. I haven't even really prepared myself for this interview. I've been re-reading this thread, but I never feel prepared for interviews. I tried looking at interview feedback, but they're not going through what we're going through. I wonder if our day will remotely resemble what I've read in the interview feedback.

I'm getting a little nervous, but always excited. I've never been to North Carolina (or the South, for that matter).

Now that you say it, I probably should check out the interview feedback that they have on here ..Where is it actually, just earlier on in this thread or a completely different one? ::A link would be nice 😀::

I usually prep by reading over my app + secondary and what not ..Going over my research so I'm as well versed in it as I was when I presented it to Committee. I've had both a Ph.D. and an MD ask about my work, in detail, at interviews, I'm lucky I had re-read it 😎

Other than that I think NC will be a blast!
Btw, are u coming in through Charlotte-Douglas? ..I have tons of family living in Charlotte so this would be perfect if I were to get in!
I admit I have sometimes considered acceptance here over acceptance into a straight MD program elsewhere ..Anywho, I'm down for meeting up with folks either the evening before or after the interview for dinner. Let me know if you're game! 🙂

The link to interview feedback is all the way at the very top of this page. Specifically: http://www.studentdoctor.net/schools/school/wfusm

I think my flight is coming in through Greensboro. The closest family I have is in Atlanta, so that might be an excuse to escape to the ATL every once in a while. My sister got my flight for me, but they haven't sent her the details yet. I hoped to get in Sunday morning and leave right after the interview, so when I find out more, I'll let you know if I can meet up. Are you trying to stay with a student? I asked to, but I never have before, so now I'm not so sure.

I, TOO, have thought about going post-bacc before MD. I haven't been to school full-time in almost 5 years. It'd be nice to get back into the swing of things and get comfortable. But $15,000 ain't no chump change, and if an MD program is comfortable accepting me despite this significant time gap, then I would be honored and find myself up to the challenge to prove them right.

We'll see, I guess.

Thanks for the link, You always know where stuff is!! 😀
..I'm a Yankee, driving from up North and was planning to spend the night at my sister's in Charlotte then drive up (an hour) to Winston-Salem the morning of.

Prove them right we will!
..We have (life) experience, something that should never be taken for granted. I believe I will treat my patients and care for them better now than I would have done if I had gone through the rote HS-College-Med route ..Somebody say AMEN!!

Amen 2 that! How old is everyone on here? Mid/late/20's-ish? I'm 25

I faxed my interview confirmation form on the 29th. I have called to follow-up but always get Ms. Dockery's voicemail. Did Wake acknowledge the receipt of your confirmation forms?

No, I havent received anything either and I send my confirmation weeks ago...I am thinking they may be backed up?

I faxed it, but I haven't received confirmation. Then I got scared and decided to email it, too. Not confirming is their MO, though. They didn't really want to confirm their receipt of your application unless you called them, so I'm going to trust that they received it.

I'm also 25 Ike, but I like to think I look much younger than that! 😀

As far as confirmations, I think whoever said that's how they operate was dead-on. I emailed mine back ASAP, with email (server) delivery confirmation so I assume they have it ..Whether or not I'm on the RSVP list, I guess we shall find out 😛

A lady never reveals her age . But I will say I'm not too too far off from the two of you.

But seriously, who would know that's Janice Dickinson?? She looks NOTHING like that. I see NOTHING about her in that picture. Which is why I like it. It's classic and timeless.

But I digress...back to topic!

FYI. I look JUST LIKE my avatar, with a shirt and tie of course!
..Alright, back to getting nervous about the interview
