Wake Forest vs Jefferson vs Robert Wood vs Loyola

Hi all! I'm not a hundred percent on a specialty but am interested in anesthesiology, PM&R, and child neuro.

Wake Forest
Pros

• Like the WS area and considering settling in NC long term
• Have heard from current students that they match scholarships + are friendly with aid
• Great program, solid match list + current students seem to love it
• Low COL + Suburban
• Optional attendance lectures makes it easier to visit loved ones despite being a bit further

Cons

• Little further from significant other (for next 2 years), family, and friends
• On the pricier side for tuition
• Didn't seem super diverse when I toured

Jefferson
Pros

• Partner is currently in philly for 2 more years (but doesn't want to stay here long term)
• Closest to family
• Friends who are SKMC students + alumni
• Great PM&R program, lots of connections
• Loved the environment on interview day, meshed well with current students and interviewees, diverse student body

Cons

• In house exams
• Huge class size
• Most expensive at 72k + Seems like they don't give out much aid paired with higher COL and tuition than winston-salem and RWJ respectively
• Don't love the city + don't want to be in Philly long term
• (?) My partner will be an attending soon and we've heard job market for Drs in the NE isn't great (based on doximity compensation reports + peers who are applying to jobs + attendings) -- would like to hear more on the validity of this point though

Rutgers RWJ
Pros

• Cheapest tuition at 47k
• Friends who are alumni have spoken highly of the school and admin - seems very supportive
• Suburban + cheaper than chicago/philly
• Close to family, friends, and SO
• Diverse student body
• No internal rank

Cons

• Same concerns as philly regarding saturated market for physicians + lower compensation

Loyola
Pros

• 20k/year scholarship
• Friend who is in the school, enjoys the program + city

Cons

• Doesn't have Pm&R or child neuro residency programs
• Far from family, friends, and SO
• Chicago cold
• Not a big city girl, would prefer a suburban area

Summary: Not sure what specialty I want to pursue but considering pm&r, child neuro, and gas, really want to be in a suburban area

RWJ. You don't have to stay in the NE for residency or as an attending. You can see if Wake offers a scholarship too.

Rwj. Easy choice. Close to family, friends and cheapest. The less private loans you can take out the better. You don’t have to do residency there if you don’t want to.
