so i sent my AMCAS in on the first day (june), took the aug MCAT and still haven't gotten the wake forest secondary! could anyone tell me the essays so i can get it in and ship that bad boy out asap

There's only one essay question. I think it's just like "write anything you want us to consider." So there you go. Just recycle an essay you wrote for another school. Good luck.

Wake has three essay questions. Two essays are required and the final essay (the one referred to by Bones) is optional. I can't remember the exact wording of the required questions. They go something like this:

1.) Choose a service activity (listed on your AMCAS application) and briefly describe its impact on you.

2.) Choose a service activity and briefly describe how it impacted others.

They want you to respond "briefly" to the above questions. They don't provide a character or word limit but I was under the impression that a paragraph or two on each should suffice.

The optional essay may have had a 500-word limit, I simply cannot remember. (Once you submit you can't view the questions again.)

thanks vaccine

Its getting kinda late. I don't even know if I'm going to turn in the supplemental once I get it. I could use the app fee money for other interviews. How much is their app fee anyways?

Has anyone who took the August MCAT heard from Wake?
It's the only school who hasn't sent me their secondary...
(they are also my 2nd to last choice seeing as i went to HS in winston... and never never NEVER want to go back)
🙁

I didn't take the August MCAT, but my AMCAS was verified mid october and I just received the WFU secondary in e-mail this morning. It's not very difficult at all, and better late than never!

Hi,

I took the august MCAT, had my AMCAS verified in late July, and just rec'd email from Wake re: submitting the secondary. Good luck to all.

I took the April MCAT (from 2002!) and I was verified in Sept, I think. Maybe it was early Oct.... I just got my secondary today. I had kind of figured they were going to reject me outright, since I hadn't heard from them.

I'm still waiting on Vandy, though....

Looks like it's "GIVE EVERYONE A SECONDARY DAY"!

got mine too this morning over email

Damn I though I was special

🙁

Does anyone know how many in-staters and out-staters get secondaries after their amcas is screened?

well im glad somebody got the secondary today, cause i sure as hell still havent. hmmmmm......im starting to think rejection more and more.

Well, I just called their admissions office and the lady told me that they send secondaries to approximately 50% of the people that apply (and I am assuming that's out-of-state).

Medicated, you might wanna call them and find out why you did not get one. My stats are on the low-end and I am out-of-state, yet I got a secondary. So I don't see a reason for you to not get one.

thanks mosfet,

i called the office today and the lady told me that the office is having "problems" downloading some of the MCAT scores. she said a lot of aug-MCAT test takers havent heard from them......so i am little relieved. if anyone else out there is waiting, don't fret....she said we would not be held at a disadvantage b/c of their delay in processing the scores. another week or two should do it. good luck everyone....i love that school

Thanks for the info, that's good to know.

I admit, of all the schools I applied to, I probably know the least about Wake. Could you, or anyone, share with me some reasons that make Wake a great school? I applied to it mainly because of location . . . in case I want to stay in the south and not go to a local school like MCG, Mercer or Morehouse. I know its a small school with great facilities, but what else is there to Wake?

Thanks! 🙂

hey DMBUGA......wake just gives me one of those feelings that makes me want to be there. they have pretty solid board scores and residency matches, great facilities.....the town seems to offer a good environment: not small, yet not too large to get lost. i feel like they will give us a good prep for the new clinical part of the boards b/c they will focus on that through years one and two also. don't forget division one sports program (not important to most people, but i love getting rowdy at a good game), and of course my little brother goes to undergrad there....so it's just got what i'm looking for.

I wasn't planning on moving so far from home for my medical school education (I'm from WA), but after interviews, Wake was my number one choice. Wake has a curriculum that uses problem based learning as well as giving first and second years patient contact. The gross anatomy unit is integrated and refered to as Human Structure and Development. The curriculum has just undergone a massive revamp (my class being the test class), and they'll continue to work out the bugs. Wake is also very technology focused. The computers that they issued us during orientation week are a key part of our learning process. While it is difficult to be so far from friends and family, I am definately happy with my choice to attend Wake. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.
