One of my friends told me that he recently got laid off by Walgreens. Basically what they told him was in order for his hours to be charged to district, he needs to be in the scholarship program (which he is not). Otherwise, the hours will be charged to his store's budget and of course, store budget does not include interns who are not regular employee.

Has anyone heard anything similar to this?

One thing that i know, is that Walgreens is in the process of laying off 1000 field managers in their first phase of restructuring. i dont want to know what phase 2 or 3 will be. they are only going to get worse than they already are.

Rumor that Kroger/Fred Meyer is doing the same. Anyone know the situation? I work for Kroger and just heard today that they are supposed to lay off all interns who are not taking the contract money. And that they've frozen the intern program completely for the time being. Anyone else work for Kroger/Fred Meyer and know anything about this?
