Does walgreens provide training for their new grad pharmacists? I heard from someone that they just stick you in a store and you "train" on the job. I would assume that they would at least provide training to everyone regardless of whether they were an intern at the company before or not. Anyone have any experience with this?

Training is provided but the length of it depends on the individual. My district usually sends new pharmacists on training for a 2-4 weeks e.g., learning to verify, handling insurance issues, etc but that's typically done for people who've never worked for the company or needed the training. Since I'd been with them as a tech/intern previously, I did verification training for half a day and then I got sent off floating; I picked up the rest of the stuff on the job

It varies by district. Wags is a mess right now. It really wasn't too organized back in the day either.

You get about a week or two of training if you're new to the company. Then it's on the job training. And mostly in a busy 24 hour store. If you're not comfortable dispensing something then don't! Always remember you can call another pharmacist at a slower store and ask them what they would do, just explain you're new and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.

Atleast its not lice cvs... 2 day training then best of luck... Throw u in the busiest stores too

Many moons ago you had to watch one or two days worth of People Plus Learning videos then you were sent to a store to work with another pharmacist for about a week. After that you're were usually sent to a 24 hour store working a rotating shift of 8-4, 11-7 or 2-10. From there you would either be sent to a different store or you just stayed at that 24 hour store. I'm sure things have changed.

I'm a 2013 grad. Worked at WAGs about 2 years when i graduated. You grad-intern at a store with a strong pharmacist. There are lots of online training programs to complete (previously called PPL's). the day I got my license I was sent to a store and worked as the only pharmacist. I'm sure its different for people who have no WAG experience but at the end of the day you graduate in May and won't be licensed until sometime around July. That is plenty of time to learn the system and how to "be a pharmacist".
