Can someone explain to me Walgreen's PTO. I can't find anything about it on the HR website other than I don't have any PTO. Does it start accruing after 6 months of employment? What's the accrual rate? I know it depends on how many hours you work, but what is it exactly? So if I can start accruing it after six months, when can I start using my PTO, is it after a year of employment?

I opened this thread thinking PTO stood for pharmacy tech outage.
 
Can someone explain how the accrual rate is calculated. My accrural rate is 0.0577. Do you take the total amount of minutes I worked in a pay period and multiply by 0.0577 and thats how many minutes of PTO i got that is added to my total PTO bank?

Would make sense. If you multiply that rate by hours, say a 40 hour week x 0.0577 x 52 weeks is 120 hours of PTO. Which is exactly 3 weeks of PTO (120 divided by 40 hrs/week).
 
At what point do you stop accruing PTO hours? I have 185 hours of PTO. I will be taking some time off in August. Should I be working any overtime? Just want to make sure I'm still accruing PTO hours.

I found the PTO accrual rates chart online. Under 150% maximum accrual, it states 216 hours (27 days). So it looks like I’m still accruing PTO hours.

I wish there was a way to just get paid for those hours without actually taking the time off.

What is the usual growth of PTO at the chains? I don’t work for one so I’m curious if it increases based on number of years of service.

120 hours per year seems low, especially as I assume that includes all sick time and “holidays” so I would imagine accrual rate increases at some point?

at Walgreens you go from 120 to 160 at 15 years

That is the lowest accrual rate at Walgreens for 0-2year of service. From 2-5 years it increases to 0.0693 or ~ 144hrs and then it increases again to about 160. I cant remember if it is 10 or 15yrs for the next(I think final) step up. Holidays do not use your PTO and you still receive "holiday pay". The only caveat is if you aren't actually working your PTO wont accrue. It also doesnt accrue past 40hrs/wk.

Not the most generous but not the worst either.. I like the PTO system because it encourages people to actually work (vs having sick time where people will call out just to use it...)

160 hours at 5 years
200 hours at 15 years
240 hours at 25 years

Doesn't involve holidays if you don't have to work but get holiday pay.

Not bad at all. 4 weeks after 5 years. way better than cvs

Can you explain the holiday pay thing? If your store is closed for the holiday, are you required to use your PTO to pay for that day? How many holidays do they acknowledge? I know many places make you use your own PTO for holidays where your location is closed, which I always felt was against the spirit of the word “holiday”...

Yes it does include sick time, but most RPh I know rarely call out sick.

No, it doesn't include holidays and you don't use PTO on a holiday. How it works is everyone gets paid for their actual hours worked plus 1 day of holiday pay. There are different arrangements to determine who works on the holiday (regular schedule, seniority, volunteer), but here are some examples of the pay:
- You work 72 hours and get the holiday off. Get paid 80 hours.
- You work 72 hours + 8 hours on the holiday. Get paid 88 hours.
- You work 80 hours during the rest of the pay period and still get the holiday off. Get paid 88 hours.

Walgreens has 6 holidays.

Dude. Don't be stingy. Take some time off. You'll still accrue on the days you work in the pay period. So if you take 5 days PTO and work 5 days in that pay period you'd still accrue on those 5 days worked. For example, you have been employed for 5 years. You'd take 40 hours PTO but earn 40 x 0.077 = 3.08 hours. So, you'd only "use" 37 hours that pay period

What does CVS vacation+sick / PTO system look like?

At Walgreed, do you ever get paid PTO you don't use? Or use it or lose it?
 
Does everyone here just love working that they don't want to take vacation?

You so stop accruing PTO when you are maxed but I've never seen someone who didn't want to take a vacation.

I am sure there are some people who won't take a vacation if PTO gets paid out.

I think that was a big reason Walgreens went the PTO route with a max.

they used to give “pay in lieu of” vacation when there was a RPh shortage back in ‘08 when i graduated. not the case anymore, use it or lose it

I now consider sick time part of my PTO and find ways to use it (since it cannot accrue past 40 hours) Also CVS has 8 holidays.
