Has anyone been hearing that in chicago, its really hard to land your own store at walgreens. I have heard some people are floating for up to 3-4 years! And those stupid schedulers forcing people to take vacation time because they they have no openings. Whats up with that? I thought there was a high demand....i guess not at walgreens in chicago 🙁 👎

Chicago in general is a very saturated market. This is a problem in a lot of the big cities. The demand and shortage are more in rural areas. If you want to land a store and sweet bonus right away and work for Walgreens in IL you need to move to the Central/South part of the state. Most people float ~1-2yrs for Walgreens in Chicagoland. If you are good though...they will give you a store right away.

Good? what makes a new grad Good to the point that they get their own store right away in Chigaco over people with more experience that have been floating around for 1-3 years?

Almost everyone starts off floating...if you are a good pharmacist, you will be put in a store right away. There are a lot of bad pharmacists out there....you'll see. It is the same anywhere.

That is true. The good pharmacist will quickly find either a permanent store or very high number of hours at one store, meaning out of the biweekly 80 hours, over 40 will be at one store. I also met some Wags pharmacists who love to float. Some of the new pharmacists also said floating can be a good experience because you'll see all different practices. One day you'll be up in Waukegan, dealing with a high minority practice, and next, you'll be in Glencoe, one of the richest areas in the Chicago area.
If you want less float time, some other pharmacies in the Chicago average less time.
I've never heard of people having trouble finding jobs, but it might take longer to find "the job" in saturated Chicago.
